Has anyone upgraded to ML - and not experience a big pile of suck?

Re: Mountain Lion wipes out DP authorizations
Runs fine on my MBP. DP is working fine, as is DSP Quattro and Logic. I've had a couple of minor rendering problems with Safari, and Launchpad has stopped responding to the 4 finger pinch a couple of times. So far it works better than the initial release of Lion. I still have no intention of going beyond 10.6.8 on my main DP system, until there is something in an OS upgrade that improves how DP or plugins run.

Re: Mountain Lion wipes out DP authorizations
Does everything still work on your 10.7.4 partition? If so, do a Time Machine restore or a fresh install of Lion onto your test partition and use Migration Assistant to pull everything over. Verify that everything works. Then update that Partition to 10.8.Jim wrote:Disk Warrior has been wiping out my DP authorizations for years. I routinely had to reauthorize DP6 under 10.6 and 10.7. I kept my DP install disk handy at all times.
When I installed 10.8, I couldn't get DP7 to authorize at all, at first. More later on that.
I wrote the OP, and Mike H. asked how I went up to Mountain Lion:
I have two partitions on my boot disk for 10.6.8 and 10.7.4. I downloaded 10.8, erased my 10.6.8 partition and installed 10.8 on it. I then used Migration Assistant to move my apps, User folder and settings from my 10.7 partition.
I installed DP724 from the new installer CD, but it wouldn't authorize. I tried about ten times. Finally, I downloaded the updater from MOTU, and ran it from my HD. Then at some point, DP7 accepted my authorization. DP6 was unauthorized under ML, but who cares?
THEN, I learned about my third-party audio plug-ins GUIs gone missing, AND was having serious problems with Adobe CS6, which is how I make my living. I booted back into Lion and haven't gone back to ML. Since DP7 works fine all around on Lion, I abandoned this thread (for a while). When 10.8.2 comes out, I may give it another shot.
I tried it both ways multiple times and had everything work great. Of course, you have to re-authorize with the CD. I also had no problem with a fresh install of ML on my test drive using Migration Assistant to pull from my 10.7.4 partition - and that worked, too. The other two installs I tried duplicated your problem.
I think that, like the permissions issue, this will turn out to be a DP, not Apple issue. I could be wrong but after the permissions issues I had with 7.24 that were not present in 7.01, I have my doubts. It took 7.12 to show me the problem. The uninstall/reinstall problem I found is really easy to duplicate - MOTU should test it and see if they can fix it.
What is weird is that my Izotope plugs showed up every time. Weird because Izotope plugs in Components can load improperly if certain files are present in the VST folder and, of course, DP doesn't use VSTs. Anyway, the presence of Izotope shows that DP is loading from the Components folder in ML - but not everything it should.
There is precedent. Both DP 5 and 6 were updated so that they would install properly onto Macs with Intel CPUs. Of course, I'm not suggesting that either be updated to Authorize on L or ML. DP 7, however, should be able to install properly onto ML and while I can get an upgrade to work properly, a fresh install doesn't for me.

Able to install 7.2.3 from CD when booting fresh install ML on an ext hd. Worked great. Finished with the 7.2.4 installer on the desktop. Good so far.
ML install over Lion on int drive was problem free.

Re: Mountain Lion wipes out DP authorizations
Honestly, it's fine. I installed it on the Mac pro I bought last week and it's pretty slick in a good way. NI audio drivers are buggy, but a beta is available I hear. I haven't installed PACE yet so I can't comment there. I'm going to try to mostly instal 64 bit plug ins and software on this machine, so since Speakerphone will probably require a paid update for 64 bit compatibility I'm in no hurry with PACE.PMortise wrote:Has anyone upgraded to ML - and not experience a big pile of suck?
RME Fireface, MOTU MTP/AV, Novation Automap, Nomad, NI software, Waldorf Edition, U-He, Ohm Force, PSP, Camel Audio, AAS all fine. Slight problems with installing U-He, had to contact Waldorf about the new version and a copy protection change they installed, and PSP is only 1/2 through with 64 bit versions. AAS has no 64 bit versions of their AU plug ins yet, but the beta of Live 8 has all the embedded Live GUI versions so obviously that's coming soon.

DP seems fine, I haven't put it through it's paces yet, but nothing wrong there. Same with the 64 bit Live beta. Mostly instal problems with Gatekeeper.
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.
Re: Mountain Lion wipes out DP authorizations
That's very interesting, Mike, because your experience runs counter to most pieces of advice I've gotten elsewhere about doing major OS upgrades (10.6 to 10.7 etc). But hey, if it works, that's fantastic. And a good tip to keep in mind when I make a second attempt to shake down ML.mikehalloran wrote:

and while I can get an upgrade to work properly, a fresh install doesn't for me.
And yeah, most everything is working pretty well in Lion. My main reason for attempting to work with ML was that I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, and ML was recommended by Adobe for "improved performance." Well, that turned out not to be the case for me. So, I'm happy to sit tight for a while, and get stuff done while the smoke clears.
I also run Avid Media Composer, and Avid usually recommends a totally clean install of a new OS. So, that forces some of us to go against somebody's good advice, because it's in conflict.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Mountain Lion wipes out DP authorizations
I have a 2012 MB pro and an old Mac Pro. Mountain Lion on the Laptop authorised straight away.
When I upgraded to ML on the Tower, it would not authorise, I would get an "unknown error" message. Tried endless times even a format, If I upgrade from Lion to ML it works. I opened a techlink, they seemed to think it was the original 7.0 CD. I got a replacement and it was the exact same. I am going install Lion and upgrade again.
What a pollava. But on the positive at least there is a workaround.

Install from the CD. Update to 7.24. It should now work - the 7.0 CD is fine as long as the 7.24 updater is installed.junoboy wrote:I have a 2012 MB pro and an old Mac Pro. Mountain Lion on the Laptop authorised straight away.

If it does not authorize, repair permissions (a good idea to do before you install DP, by the way).
All of those self serving gurus who post on the 'net that repairing permissions isn't really necessary in OS X? None of them are running DP.
