DP file won't open
I recently had to have data restore from a faulty drive. A lot of it came back as Unix Executable Files. For most of the audio and video files I was able to find a way to open them. Now I find a whole pile of DP projects in the same form. I can't open them by using Get Info, nor can I import them into an open Template. Is their an extension that I can add to the name?
Any ideas?
btw

Search the forum. This had a thread within the last 18 months or so. Sorry I can be more specific but it's all about how the data was restored and the Mac headers (or something like that) You might search for data restoration, .exe (if that's not too broad a search criteria).
It is fixable and as I recall they member had to go back to the restoration place and have them rewrite the files with a Mac friendly format.
Hope that helps.

thx MIDI. wasn't able to find it and i really hope i don't have to return the drive, because it was sent to the US and i'm in canada. but it definitely was a pc/mac problem because i had to take everything off the drive and reformat it just so it could written on.

I did a search as well and cannot find the thread, but I know it's there. Maybe one of the participants could direct you there is they see this, or you might call a Mac expert drive repair place for advice, but I do seem to recall you need to have the data recopied to a Mac friendly format.

Re: DP file won't open
Might be worthwhile to try resetting the creator/type of these DP files. I've used Filetype in the past when servers chewed up some project files during transfer.. IIRC the creator should be MOUP and type PERF
Re: DP file won't open
I would try this first too. Just back up all the files first in case things get any more mangled. Here is actual MOTU info on setting file type/creator codes: http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... rmer-filesspire10r wrote:Might be worthwhile to try resetting the creator/type of these DP files. However, my guess is that the resource forks were stripped. I'd bet the recovery service used PC-based tools and just didn't consider/realize the intricacies of dealing with hard drive formats compatible with MAC. Did they at all tell you what the problem was with the drive and what they did to recover data?
I did a brief search here and came up with this thread that mentions restoring resource forks, though I'm sure there will be more info outside of the forums too. http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... le#p371071

Re: DP file won't open
Thank you everyone! FileType did indeed change the DP file. But now all of the audio associated with these projects are f**ked up as well, and they won't load. I tried tagging them all with .sd2 but although they look like DP audio files, they won't load into even a blank project. Is there a way to use File Type for this , oh Gods of DP?
Re: DP file won't open
One thing to possibly get the project to load is to throw all the audio files into the trash. You don't have to empty the trash, but if you move them anywhere else DP can potentially keep tags on where you moved them and still access them. Put them in the trash and open your project. If that works you will at least be able to salvage your MIDI data and other stuff.zedboy wrote:Thank you everyone! FileType did indeed change the DP file. Sometimes a single audio file can corrupt a DP project. Same instructions as above would apply in order to get the project to open without a bad audio file crippling the process.

Re: DP file won't open
Sorry to say but I have to agree with bad andy on this one. If the audio files are SD2 and touched a non-hfs file system, the original metadata (ie resource fork) is lost.
The restoration of the lost resource is beyond my skill set so I'd be tempted to contact data recovery guys and see if there are any other options left for recovery of that volume with HFS/+ tools.

Re: DP file won't open
Thanks again everyone. You were right! By moving the audio files folder out of the project folder I got the DP file to open, then ask where the audio was.
Unfortunately I had to painstakingly convert (using Audacity Import Raw Data) each file to, in this case WAV, or find a working copy of the file, then direct DP to that new folder. Pain in the ass BUT nothing lost.
Thank you DP people
