Hello, everyone.
Mail (in Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro) keeps displaying one red tag, as if there were a new unread message. I know there are't any, but I can't get rid of the stupid tag. I have lots of mailboxes, so I actually created a smart mailbox set to show any unread messages including the trash, just to make sure, and it didn't show any.
I tried deleting its .plist file. It did solve the problem, but then all my mailboxes, smart mailboxes and accounts get reset to default, and I really don't feel like setting all that again. Once I put back the original .plist file, it still shows the annoying red tag.
I mean, it's not the end of the world or anything, but I want it to go back to normal.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this that does not involve deleting the .plist?
Thanks!

There's a command somewhere to rebuild the mailbox database. (Worth a shot, though i bet its just an unread message hiding somewhere.) Not sure where not at computer now. Maybe hold OPT while launching Mail?
Isn't there also a right-click option submenu to 'Mark all messages as read' ?

I used to quit and restart Mail when this happens, but now I just switch folders and then switch back to 'Inbox' and the flag goes away.

Re: Stubborn eMail red tag won't go away...
Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
I tried everything you told me, including rebuilding the mailboxes, but still no dice.
The only pseudo-solution I found is to set in Mail's preferences "Dock Unread Count" to show Inbox messages only. That works... But if I set it back as I had it (to show any mailbox) then the red tag reappears showing this stubborn message.
The weird thing is that my smart mailbox doesn't show me any unread messages (and I have it set to show any unread message from any mailbox).
Hmmmm.... Strange.
Oh, well. I guess I can live with it only showing unread messages from the Inbox. Not ideal, but works for now.
Thanks guys!

If it's not a Mobile Me/Mac IMAP account, have you checked to see if you're subscribed to all the folders or for Mac/Me is something showing up in the quota list that isn't in the mail sidebar? Right-click your inbox and select Get Account Info. Just something to look at.
