Bounce To Disk with UAD Card
Hey guys- i'm just getting back up and running with DP 7.24 after a year of working in Logic.
When bouncing to disk in Logic I always chose the 'real time' bounce. (Thought I had read about issues with the UAD plugs working properly if you didn't)
In DP I don't see an option for real time bounce and I can't find any people reporting issues when searching thru the forums. So...
Can any UAD owners give me any user experience here? Thanks!

I don't do a lot of BTD, but I do recall a problem quite some time ago with the UAD. That's when I started doing all my bounces in real time. I haven't gone back. FYI, that problem was fixed and all should be good. On the rare occasion when I've had to make a temporary mix of something and I have used BTD, there haven't been any problems.

I don't BTD a lot either, especially multi-track mixes. But whenever I do, the UAD stuff seems to work as it should. I've only had UAD for about a year and a half, so I can't speak for problems previous..
DP11, 2019 16-Core Mac Pro, OS 14 Sonoma , 64GB RAM. RME HDSPe MADI FX to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix console, and multiple digital sub consoles. UAD Quad PCIe. Outboard stuff.

If you are using a lot of UAD plugs in your mix, and especially if you are using the Precision Multi-band plug, make sure all of your audio is merged, i.e., no x-fades or fadeouts, before you BTD. You can get audio drop-outs at x-fades or the starting point of a fade. Also, if the audio begins right at the beginning of a soundbite, you might miss the first transient, so make sure to merge a little bit of silence in front of any such soundbite.

Over the years I have been using the same method, whether it be with DP or ProTools.
All my projects/sessions are initially set up with all tracks routed to an aux track, as a mix buss, where I can apply any overall processing (Metering, EQ, Compression, Limiting) and that is assigned to an audio track, set to input for monitoring, designated as my mix track.
I am therefore always ready to record what I am hearing, without ever doubting about the results. I have always preferred to record my mixes in real time like this... maybe it is because of my traditional analogue studio history! But it has always been foolproof.
I have used BTD in various programs without many problems, but I still prefer to hear the mix as it is ‘going down’!
This method does seem to avoid any doubts about whether offline bouncing can be trusted.... and it only takes a few minutes longer.
Oh, and I always check it back too.
Many, many years ago I did a mix, recorded to 2 track, without checking. I then reset the desk, pulled the patchcords, reset the outboard. The 2 track was not patched in. Oops, blank tape! Had to do it again, and at my own expense! Never again.......

Do you just route the master fader to a stereo track?

Route all the tracks to an aux track (for any overall plugs), and then route the aux to an audio track.
or, route all tracks to a buss, create a master fader for that buss (for any overall plugs), and then create an audio track with that buss as the input.
The result will be the same, many ways to skin a cat!
My templates get a bit more complicated. I subgroup drums, bass, guitars, keys, vocals, (whatever 'families' of instrumentation I fancy) to their own audio tracks, all set to input. These are then routed to my 'mix buss' aux track, and then this is sent the the mix audio track. It means I can make a mix, or create stems at any time.

So you can't record from the main out stereo pair?

Stephen- I recall this is how I used to do it as well when I was using DP years ago.
Except I think the majority of my mixes back then were being run out into my UAD610 >Fatso hardware and recorded back into DP.

FWIW, I've got a UAD Duo, and have had no problems bouncing to disk even when running the card close to capacity. I've had so few problems with DP v7.x, especially 7.24. Give it a try!

If you run an entire mix through an aux, does it null with a mix where tracks are sent directly to the master out? This is definitely not the case in Pro Tools, but I haven't tried it in DP. There's no way to real time record your mix in DP without bringing it back in from hardware if you don't use an aux, which may be why I haven't tried it. My ears always felt the mix getting smaller the more auxes you ran through, but that's probably just my brain messing with me.
UPDATE:
Very interesting. I just did a mix with everything routed through a bus to a stereo track. Anything going through auxes before hitting the master bus doesn't null with the BTD where everything is routed to a stereo output pair. Anything going straight to the master bus does null. So in this case, the vocal doesn't null, but all the music does. Does that mean there's something weird with DP's ADC on auxes?

Like crduval I to have been BTD and have had zero issues with my then UAD2 cards and now my UAD Satellite. The only thing I've found is that if my CPU is close to maxing out I patch my Master out fader to inputs 1 & 2 to record the mix back into the same session. Thus it is a 'real time' mix that I can listen to if needed.
