Aside from the variety of Viagra, et. al jokes, anybody else have a dongle going bad on them??
Just upgraded from a G4 to a 2gig dual G5 with 2.5 gig RAM and sometimes the dongle works and sometimes it doesn't. I've plugged it directly into the machine, into the keyboard and into a hub and 40% of the time I get a message telling me that my version of 1.0!!!! isn't authorized. I haven't used 1.0 in I don't know how long
I've installed the 1.2.whatever beta update and the update of the dongle software and the problem remains.
The short term solution SEEMS to be, keep moving the dongle. If it doesn't work, try another port and stay there until it goes out again. Shake, stir, repeat, bake at 320.
Hmmmmm?

Re: Dongle going bad?
Just as a wild chance... since it is intermittent, I'd grab a qtip with some alcohol and scrub down the little feller. Do what you can (maybe gently with a toothpick) to clean well into the connector. Blow it out with some air (from an air can, not your mouth - nothing personal) and when you are sure it is dry, try again.
Since it works sometimes and just as unreliably in different ports, it may be a dirty contact. Of course, it may be a bad iLok, but I would imagine that a bad iLok is not going to be intermittent.
You might also go into your "About this Mac" More Information - and see if it shows up whenit is failing. At least you'll know the computer is seeing it.
One more thought, itmight be the program that is not working correctly. In fact, I'd suspect that first. Trash your preferences files, repair permissions (very important) and after all that and cleaning, if it STILL sucks wind, then it probably is the iLok.
Finding the problem can sometimes be very elusive. You think it's one thing and your do everything, including replaceing it, only to find it was something else (usually something very minor). At least, that has been my experience.
