That opens up some options doesn't it? I don't think I have much that's Mac specific now.

Well, Windows isn't an option for me. But if that announcement is legit, it makes sense. Members of this forum keep going on about how DP is getting killed by Logic on the Mac OS.... so why stay Mac exclusive? If you're getting clobbered on this battlefield, go find another one!

Maybe now Sound On Sound has to start writing about it again when thousands of Windows pirates start using DP8 ;)

Seriously though... If it's true... I did not expect it. Makes sense as all their other software is both PC and Mac. A bit sad though, but I guess that's what it takes to survive in the more and more crowded DAW scene...

James is gonna get a field day when the windows users start pouring in to the forum ;)

Developers have been jerked around quite a bit by Apple. Apple prices their apps to sell hardware - tough to compete with. Now with the upcoming 30% haircut in the app store, no wonder they're looking for other markets. Just glad my mini server runs Win7 x64 in bootcamp flawlessly so I'll get a chance to check this out.

NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!

Surprising news indeed but should be a smart move strategically for Motu. Yes I do worry about the added traffic and implications for James but it looks like it will be feeding time for MLC ;)
I think we have some very entertaining posts in our near future! lol

Don't want to be the first one to be disappointed but I've always thought that cross platform applications suffered from twice the debugging and coding in terms of adding features and what not... but if MOTU are worried about Mac Pros being discontinued as a real possibility then this makes sense in terms of workstation software like DP. Again, the sad thing is thinking about how it will slow down development of DP, and I don't really know how many legit users it will bring? It might just be the end of DP as dongle free software as well.

The big thing is what else does DP8 bring besides 64 bit and Windows compatibility? For those of us with older machines that don't do 64 bit and who don't own any Windows boxes what's there?

I have been thinking this was going to happen! I will always be a mac man, but i think it is great for Motu, they have hardware on both platforms and it should make their Brand shine even brighter, I also predict that in the future Motu will turn DP into a complete audio/video solution! this may be several years away but since i never opened my mouth about a wintel version, ill go ahead and put it out there now..

I love DP & my mac, but i can see this move being nothing but positive for MOTU!!!

Also worrying is that most of the development time might have gone into 64bit and porting to windows instead of improving so much else. All I heard so far is that there are even more guitar effects... But I'm still optimistic! ;)
