problem saving plug-in settings RESOLVED

Post by insch »

I am having an issue when trying to save settings when using Masterworks EQ plug-in in DP. Whenever I try I get 'Digital Performer has encountered an error - MacOS error: file not found (-43)'. I think I've had this with other plug-ins too.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

The first thing I'd try is quitting DP, deleting the preference file (plist) and restarting and trying again. It sounds like DP is trying to save a preference file but "can't find" it which is another way of saying the file is corrupted.

Masterworks is looking for a folder to save the preset which is located at:

HD>Library>Audio>Presets>Digital Performer>MW Equalizer

That is where the file is supposed to be stored. Make sure the folder exists. It should have been created when DP was installed from the DVD.

Thank you. Will I lose anything important when ditching the plist file?

Not IMO. Nothing you can't reset.

Thanks. I'll have a go. It has the Masterworks folder but it's obviously lost track of it.

I had DP crash/quit on me the other day when I went to save a MW EQ setting. I don't save plugin settings very often, and didn't retry it after relaunch, so thought of the crash as just another random one. Hmmmm...

And have now done an uninstall and re-install of DP. Didn't work. Anything I have missed?

Thanks.

I've had the same problem try to save plugin settings as clippings. Repairing permissions, deleting permissions, and restoring folders did not work. But I noticed that it didn't happen in Lion on my MBP or the 10.6.8 V1.1 update on the iMac.

Aha - maybe it's the time for me to upgrade to Lion...

You might want to read a few threads on that first. You might loose the ability to access some other programs and plugs. Be sure to check on the programs you use to see if you are up to date. Adobe Suite, Quicken, etc.

Then there's this:

Good to know - maybe I'll pause for now and use Clippings to get round my DP problem.

Got this resolved in the end - called MOTU support. The cause was that there was no folder called 'MOTU' in HD/Library/Audio/Presets. There was one called 'Digital Performer' but DP was looking for the MOTU one to save the plug-in settings to. I created the MOTU folder and then tried saving the settings and it worked - it created it's own 'MasterWorks EQ' folder within the MOTU folder.

Thought I'd post this in case anyone comes across the same problem.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me.

Not to repeat myself. You didn't create this a few days ago?

I didn't create that MW Equalizer folder because it already existed within the Digital Performer folder. But there was no MOTU folder in Presets which is apparently what DP needs to save this preset. When it saved the preset it also created a MasterWorks EQ folder for it.

I don't think it is. You'll probably break more things than you fix.
