not happy with reverbs?

I used to record my voice through a Yamaha O1v mixer with my Neumann TLM 193 using the mixers built in reverbs, into a MOTU 2408. I was getting a nice sound. Now I am going directly into an Apogee ONE with the same mic and using the standard DP reverbs. I am not getting very good results. (Also, I am having to put the Apogee at almost full volume so I'm not sure if that is effecting anything.) I've been messing with all sorts of things (distance, mic placement, all the DP reverbs, Garage Band reverbs, compression etc.) trying to match the quality of the old set up. I am not sure if I should try some sort of pre-amp before the ONE and/or some other brands plugins. I'm am interested in any opinions on this. BTW, the built in ONE mic didn't work well with my voice either.

I would add a preamp ahead of the interface. If you have to crank the pre on the One to get just barely enough gain out of a Neumann 193, then you need more juice to get a decent signal in there.

Have you tried DP's IR reverb, or are you using the old algorithmic one?

What is it about the reverb settings you are not liking? Perhaps it would be useful if you post a small clip with your processed vocals to hear what the problem is, so we may offer suggestions.

You could try other reverbs, of course, but most modern ones will sound quite good if you dial nice parameters.

I heard Waves had a big discount on their classic TrueVerb. It's also quite good and easy to manipulate.

Thanks for the links. I know I'm going to sound dim, but which DP reverb is algorithmic and which is IR? I've figured out the difference but am not sure which DP's are which. In the owners manual it says to refer to the plug-ins guide but I don't recall receiving one with my disk/manual. I just did a crash comparison course in the available DP reverbs. After experimenting with the 3 reverbs I have, (MOTU: stereo, eVerb, and Plate) I've finally found some nice settings in the eVerb for that vocal.

Thanks, I did not see those, I always just type in what the search box, and was totally blind to what was below. Speaking of blind-- OMG how did I miss Proverb also??!! I just checked it out. It's VERY cool at first impression. Quite different than the others. I of course see the difference between the reverb types now. I think this is going to help a lot.

#1 Real live chambers. build one in your basement minimum 14'-16' x 18' x 8'-12' decay 1.7 to 2.2 sec

#2 EMT Stereo Plate w/remote, try to find a good one with good clips and no rust on plate.

#3 Lexicon 480L thru mixer at end of work station outputs. Analog best end of chain.

Most all digital in the DAW high end verbs sound the same to me as does digital recording below 88,2 x 24bit. Homogenized tone with less than warm human ear compatibility.

Then again I hate the sound of CDs.
