Let´s try solve the problems: what audio format do you use?

Post by Radiogal »

Okay, I read the Trouble/Criticism and read about all these problems about this and that, about not being able to record long files and not being able to load certain projects and files and crashes and questions what audio format ppl are using and ppl asuming this format would be better than the other.

Now Let´s do some research and try find out what ppl use and what they have experienced in this matter.

Let´s start:
I used SDII on the G5, 48 kHz/24 bits.
On the Intel Mac Pro I now use Broadcast Wave 48 kHz/24 bits.
Haven´t experienced any problems.

I once had a problem with a long surround file..... I had left the prefs set on interleaved, and the resultant file exceeded the 2Gb limit...... once I had unchecked interleaved things were fine, the individual surround files of course were smaller (by a factor of six, of course)

Therefore it might be a good idea not to use interleaved files on longer recordings.

Cheers

I'm slightly different, since Dp introduced 32 bit float point I have been using 48/32 with no problems....I like the idea behind float point.

wav 48/24, crashes on long files. regular length (4min) songs are fine.

All of the above. Had some problems loading files, but only when I once followed advice to use a separate non-admin OS X account dedicated to DP. In that case, files often refused to load because of permissions restrictions. There are no such problems when using the main admin account.

24 bit/44.1khz SDII. Export as AIFF.

Been recording in this format ever since DP 2.72. No problems (well,
a number of problems over the years, but not with the audio format).

Wow. I was getting into "slove". That's a real internet term until it was changed in the thread. Slove is from the Urban Dictionary. Superman doesn't love. He sloves.

Sloving problems is what I live for!
