Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
This Mac Pro is rocking my boots off!
It has been doing great from day ONE!
Thing is I finally can upgrade some things now running an Intel Mac and SL (without the OSX limits I had with the G5/Tiger).
I´m finally able making some big improvements to my system.
No I haven´t won the lottery.. I just had some G5 years not being able to add anything new but DP. Thanks MOTU!
I have the UAD1 PCIx in my G5 but decided to abandon UAD by not buying an UAD2 card for the Mac Pro.
Instead I bought the upgrade to Waves 8 Mercury bundle and the SSL 400 bundle. Got them all now!
The Waves July discount prices are good and it was even (much) cheaper buying from Tony Belmont at http://www.highprofileaudio.com
Many new high quality and useful plugins made this upgrade a good one IMO.
All new future plugins will be included to Mercury, so it´s kinda future safe.
All showed up on my Waves account and iLok account within a few hours!
I´ll install the upgrade at monday. That´s when I´ll get the iLok2.
Over 110 plugins!!! That´s > 60 more than I had before!
The Diamond buldle was still Waves 7 so I gained this WUP by buying the Mercury too.
Waves recently announced it´s gonna take some time to get Lion ready.
I really don´t consider this to be any problem as Snow Leopard is well-established, stable with DP and SL will be supported by all software developers for at least 3-4 more years.
I also upgraded to Logic Pro 9 as I´m worried what will happen to Logic X considering what Apple did to Final Cut Pro X.

Yea, Logic 9 is the mature version - 8 felt unfinished by comparison. I don't use it except to open projects begun elsewhere but it is pretty good. If they muck up Logic X, Logic Studio 9 will get you by for many years.

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
True
I installed the Mercury and SSL bundle yesterday. All running great in DP.
I also upgraded to Wavelab 7 from WL Studio 6 (Windows)
I now can stay in the Mac Pro and do the mastering projects on the same system. Thanks Steinberg!
During the last weeks I have done some multitrack DP mixes on the new Mac Pro and the system seems very stable. No problems at all. Everything is so much faster!
Very happy I moved on to an Intel Mac Pro now. With Lion rushing I couldn´t make myself wait for another year for all software to get Lion ready.
The G5 was really puking on me and my demands..
That made me hurry and buy a Snow Leopard system.
This upgrade was a big investment, but I usually keep a good running system for many years. The G5 was in production for 6 years!
I´m not planning selling the G5. The second hand marked wouldn´t give me much for it and it eventually could be a good back up and used as a second Mac in another studio room for pre or post productions.
We´ll see.
Well that´s about it I think.
Let´s start the new adventure

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz
Glad to hear all is going well, RG. I knew you'd be blown away by the MacPro. I went from a G4 to a MacPro and I was certainly blown away. I have a very small control room so I don't mix there. I've got two spaces. One for tracking (studio with control room) and another space dedicated to mixing. Each space has a MacPro.
I won't comment on Waves as I have a bitter history with that company, but I'm curious about your choice to abandon UAD. Was it a cost issue or did you not like the UAD stuff? I'm actually thinking of adding a second UAD card to my mixing station.

Re: Ordered the 6 Core 3,33 GHz

I abandoned UAD at this stage as I felt it was to expensive to buy a UAD Duo just being able to run the plugins I already had on the UAD-1. The UAD plugins always gave me audio spikes in most situations on the G5, therefore I avoided using them.
Hardly used the included plugins except for the Pultec and the precision de-esser that I bought extra.
During July Waves has this upgrade discount. The even cheaper deal with HighProfileAudio made this a no brainer for me. So I decided to upgrade to Mercury instead of putting money into the UAD2.
IMO this gives me more value for the money. During the years I never had any problem with Waves and I use them on every project.
I now have 70 more Waves plugins than I had before, including all the "new" high quality plugins.
The Pultec, LA-2A, LA-3A and 1176LN are included and many more like the Neves, APIs and SSL, all signature series, the new Kramer MPX, HLS, PIE, Fairchild, Aphex Exiter, Vocal Rider etc.
But hey, you know me:
Despite having so many plug ins already I´ll for sure keep an eye on the second hand marked for a cheap UAD Duo. If I find one for the right gut feeling price, why not,

Why not get a used UAD-1e? They're available for almost nothing and that way you can at least run the UAD plugs you already have...Radiogal wrote:I´ll for sure keep an eye on the second hand marked for a cheap UAD Duo. If I find one for the right gut feeling price, why not,
