Why the change? RESOLVED

Post by EBikales »

Hello,
Today I had to unhook my Mac Pro and take it to the Mac store for an unrelated install problem I was having. I was careful when hooking it back up to plug everything in just as I found it. I have 3 interfaces: a 2408 mkIII, and two 24 i/os. The 24 i/os are labeled 24 i/o-2 and 24 i/o-3.
The audio wire plugs for all 3 interfaces are taped together so you can't switch the order.
Why then, has DP 7.23 relabeled all my interface settings with the wrong units? ie: my main output and input were ch.1-2 of the 24 i/o-2. But now all my projects have the stereo outputs labeled as 2408 mk.III. And the 24 i/os are marked as 24i/o-3 and -4! What the heck? Same thing in my MOTU PCI audio setup. I tried to open the audio/MIDI setup, and that main screen wouldn't even come up. Everything is changed. (I think my MIDI functions still work) Why would DP do that, and how do I fix it without having to change every F*%#>^+ track on every tune?
:smash: Eric
P.S. when I do change the output of a track to ch. 1-2 of the 24 i/o-3 I do get audio.

You could also change this in the Bundles window? (shift-U)

This has happened to me too and it's very irritating. It's usually though when you mix up the cables when reconnecting, but that seems not be the case here. Which makes it weird, I agree...

Yes this happened to me a long time ago, and I learned to keep the interface cables taped together so they literally have to be plugged back in the correct order. That's why I'm so frustrated that this is still happening. Also I have a session tomorrow AM! I have an emergency email in to MOTU in case they can get back to me early tomorrow.
But essentially the problem in the short term is that not all of my inputs that I'm using for drums etc. are showing up in the input selection list. There is also a discrepancy between what the MOTU PCI Audio Setup program has listed, and what is listed in the MOTU PCI Cue MIx Console. It's all a big mess thanks to DP's changing all my settings for no reason. I wonder if Logic ever has problems like this?

Have you plugged into the PCI card from the wrong end? PCI 1 is next the the Adat sync.

Ok, it's fixed. I did plug the cables back in the correct order, but I didn't realize there were 4 slots on the PCI card to plug my 3 interfaces, and I inadvertently offset them. (It's dark back there!) Once all 3 were in the correct place, everything went back to normal.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I appreciate you guys.

Thanks for follow up. I appreciate it. MOTU gets a lot of blame around here and it takes a big person to follow up and post that it was a mistake on their part. I've done exactly what you've done BTW! :)
