Track Selectors in Mixer and Sequence

Post by thethethediamondz »

I've been having trouble figuring out how to make it so that the tracks selected to show in my unconsolidated Mixer Window are the same as those selected to show in my consolidated Sequence Window. I've read the manual in a lot of places and can't find any true option to sync the two together.

i have realized tho that it's confusing becuz i can create a separate Track Selector in the left pane of my consolidated window. but i can also create a Track Selector that springs from my Sequence Window, also consolidated. and then my unconsolidated Mixer Window can also have a Track Selector that springs from it. basically, i just want to have one place to choose what tracks will show up in either of these windows. so for example, if i deselect track 3 in my mixer, it disappears from view as well as the track 3 in my Sequence Window.

it seems like sometimes i can get the separate Track Selector in the Consolidated Windows to do this, but it depends on which window i was looking at last. i'm not sure if this is really simple so is not addressed in the manual and i'm just making it more complicated than it needs to be. i thought i remembered a way in an older version of DP to do exactly what i wanted out of the Preferences. i only use mostly Sequence and Mixer Windows so i'm not concerned with what shows up in other ones.

In Prefs, Consolidation Windows has an option "scroll mixing board to selection" which should be checked. My favorite new tool is the "channel strip". Whatever channel is highlighted comes up without having to look through 60 tracks. As far as deselecting tracks from the mixer I don't how to do that. I just save a board layout and modify that as I go.

De-selecting tracks or anything else is just a key command: COMMAND-D. But deselecting particular tracks, and not globally? Can't be done from the mixing board, as far as I know. I wish they'd put a little pad in there for us to click on.

I was under the impression he knew that much. I thought we were talking about selecting and deselecting tracks as in "selections," not just whether they appear in the Mixing Board window. But maybe I was wrong.

Re: Track Selectors in Mixer and Sequence

i think i confused this by how i posted. my problems not with selecting or deselecting at all but with what tracks show in my mixing board and in my sequence editor window.

or maybe i'm using the word 'selecting' wrong. what i mean is that if i've got 10 tracks. i can have all 10 show in my sequence editor window, but i can actually select tracks 1 and 2 for whatever command i'm using.

so i don't mean what i'm selecting but i mean what tracks are visible. and i'm determining that by what tracks i click on in each window's track selector that folds out from it to the left.

i can have separate set ups for both my mixer and my sequence editor. (my mixer is in it's own window and my sequence editor is consolidated.) so in my sequence window, i can have tracks 1,2,3 and 6 show. but my mixer window can have tracks 2,4,6 and 8 show.

and i'm wondering if there's a way that i can have the track selector of the mixer mirror what i've chosen on my sequence editor window or vice versa. so that if i go to the selector pane and choose to show 1,2,3,4 and exclude 5-10 that the mixer will also only show 1-4 while making 5-10 invisible to me.

i don't mean that i want the mixer to only show the tracks in which i have soundbites selected in, just that i only want to see 1-4 ever and i don't want to see 5-10. until i change that in the Track Selector pane.

i think maybe this is a case of me rethinking how i interact with DP. recently i read about mixer layouts, which might be what i'm looking for. or maybe if i want to hide track six, i just need to click in two different track selector windows. not a big deal, for sure. but more wondering if there was something i was overlooking. it sounds like other people might be used to other ways of using the interface and maybe i've grown into strange habits with the program.

Yes, Board Layouts is what you want. You access them from the Mixer's mini menu.
