DP 7.23 hangs and crashes...

DP crashed a bunch of times... I tried to repair permissions, clean preferences in DP/Motu (I am using an ultralite as interface).

Running sessions from the internal drive (I am in a macbook pro, core 2 duo, 4 Gb ram).

It´s a totally clean system... I got a bunch of different errors...

Any advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!!

I have just run a RAM test with techtool and seems to be fine. Also, on the mac specs says "ram ok".

Plugins, I don´t have that many installed now... I did a clean install of everything this weekend.... I am using VE Pro (8 instances on the v-rack) and one kontakt on the session I am working on. It´s a big template though, with a lot of MIDI tracks and just one audio file as reference. No video though.

My system specs:

MacBook Pro 3,1 (i think), from late 2007
2.2 Ghz
4 Gb Ram
SL 10.6.7
DP 7.23
Internal HD is a 500gb, 7200 rpm.
Audio interface: MOTU ultralite, driver 1.6, firmware 1.15

I repaired permissions on the main HD booting from the SL install disc, but it didn´t do the trick...

Hmmm... Not familiar with the RAM test in techtool. Hopefully it's thorough. You might double check with Rember. It is free.

WHat is the sample rate and bit depth for the project?

For now, just a hollywood winds major scale patch.

48 khz/ 24 bit.

Disable Kontakt and see if the project is stable.

It maybe that the samples in Kontakt were/are 48/24 and your project is 44/24....

Just guessing really....

Not sure if this is the acute problem, you could have some actual hard- or software problem crash your machine. But even on a clean system, unless the project is super-simple, you should really never run DP sessions from the same drive you run DP and the OS from. (If you're running Kontakt, sounds like you may also be streaming samples from the same drive as well?)

Try putting the project folder (and possibly your Kontakt library) on an external FW drive, and I'd suspect there would be some improvement in stability right away. (Of course this would do nothing to fix a possible corruption problem or similar.)

I am streaming from an external drive...

About the session, I always though, for a laptop, it was better to run it on the internal drive... probably I am wrong then... I will check it later...

I am thinking even on starting from scratch from a clean template, and then "move" the MIDI data.

Old templates have burned a lot of folks around these parts over the years. A fresh template may be the ticket to a stable system. Good luck!
