I have narrowed it down to only when I am recording digital audio(ADAT and AES/EBU) with analog inputs to my 896HD total audio drop outs random timing sometimes all the way out to 45 seconds into the piece. I was beginning to suspect my DA-7 until I recorded a DAT to DP direct AES/EBU with Left Ch Clipping on DP input (the same level on DAT and also on Analog input on DA-7 and got same results)
