Dual monitor resolution issue

Post by snicka »

I am trying to run a 23" Cinema and a 20" Studio Display (ADC with adaptor) on a new dual 2.3GHz G5.

The problem is that the 23" won't run at full screen. I get a black area around the desktop even when run at the highest resolution. It seems to only run at the highest resolution of the 20".

The 20" works fine.

Is this normal? Is there a way to corect this?

Thanks for any help.

Found out the answer.

Spoke with Apple support and they said that is just how it is when running both monitors in mirror mode.

Kinda sucks but what can ya do?

You should be able to run in extended desktop mode unless the video card you have does not support the high resolution needed for those displays. In the Displays pane there is an "Arrangement" option with a checkbox for mirroring. Uncheck the mirroring checkbox if it is checked. If you have already done that there may be an issue with driving two high resolution screens with your card. I believe you need at least a Radeon 9600 or higher or the NVIDIA (56xx I think) equivalent for running two 23" screens. This may apply to a 20" and 23" as well.

It does work fine with extended desktop, but that does not suit my needs.

I need them to run in mirror mode.

Thanks for the input though.
