Is GSI VB3 crashing DP or is it another issue?
Hi all,
I've finished laying down some tracks for a funk tune I'm working on and have now come to mix it but after saving the project and coming back to it. It crashes DP sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes. Sometimes it will let me play the recording for a while but then as soon as I click to change anything it crashes. Or just by moving the playhead to where I want to start it playing.
It only does it for one project, it's only 6 channels of audio plus 1 instrument track, which is a GSi VB3 organ plugin. It mentions on their website that 'VB3 could still show some incompatibilities with Digital Performer 7.x and OSX from version 10.5.6.'
I'm hoping this isn't the problem as I haven't the time to rerecord the organ in Logic if I was to move the audio over there for mixing. Which I would rather not do.
I could post the crash report if that would be of any help to diagnose the problem?
If it is in fact the organ plug causing the problem... is there a way to say, freeze the track so the organ still plays or export the track as audio so I can still mix in DP or even export the MIDI data so I could manipulate it in logic and then put the audio back into DP for final mixing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I can confirm that the VB3/DP as always been fragile. If you the latest version of vb3 it should work but still a bit fragile depnding on your system.

Ah that's unfortunate. It recorded with absolutely no problems. When it does play it sounds fantastic but I can't get it to play long enough to do any work on it.
How can I get the MIDI data out so I can fiddle with it in logic then?

Agreed, Dwetmaster. I've tried running VB3 realtime, pre-gen, interface open/closed, v-racked, installed in User/Library as opposed to Mac HD/Library. VB3 still seems to crash DP unpredictably. All I know is when I remove the AU the odd crashes stop. A pity, because it sounds great.Dwetmaster wrote:I can confirm that the VB3/DP as always been fragile. I exported the MIDI via save as and then imported it into logic and fixed any issues and then drop the audio back into DP for mixing and it sounds larvely
Shame its such an arse on!

Is this still the state of affairs for VB3? I was thinking about getting it, the demo seems to start up fine, but if people think it may randomly crash later once I get into a project then I don't even wanna bother with it.
Its been years this bug floating around, its a shame GSI and MOTU can't put their heads together and figure it out, VB3 is quite popular among the organ crowd.
I actually own B4II, but I think the amp completely sucks on it and the leslie isn't the greatest either. Keep having people tell me to try VB3.

Not only has this DP bug been around for years, but there is no sign whatsoever that the dev plans any 64-bit updates. Even the latest product, Key Performer, is still being developed as 32-bit only.
I kinda gave up on GSi.... When the latest Lounge Lizard came out, I suggested to AAS that they do a killer Hammond/Leslie emulation -- they thought it was a great idea, "if we can find the time to do it." With B4 dead and VB3 broken, there's definitely a market for it.

Which ever organ you get, just use Amplitube's leslie emulation and see the light. Believe me I've done A LOT of research on the subject.

if AAS did B4 I have no doubt it would be totally awesome. maybe someday.
I do own Amplitube also, never tried the leslie on it. I will have to look into that. Which Amplitube amp model would you reccomend for getting more or less the same kind of distortion that I would get for a real leslie? it seems to be only a cab model in Amplitube.
Thanks for the feedback about VB3. I definitely will not give money to a product that is not being kept up to date. KeyPerformer had my interest initially also because I am building a live gigging pc now.. But...you've talked me out of it....there are many other options.

Re: Is GSI VB3 crashing DP or is it another issue?
Don't get me wrong, VB3 is an AMAZING B3 emulation ( most likely the best there is ) but indeed the lack of support is not stellar.
I usually bypass all the other mobule of amplitube, and only plug VB3 directly into it. The Preamp section emulation in VB3 is ok. I've also used it with Wave arts' Tube saturation and/or PSP Vintage warmer. Whichever tube emul you use, you put between the organ and the leslie emul.
In the studio, I have an actual Hammond A-100 that I run into Amplitube. Now THAT'S something...

does VB3 play nice with DP if its inside one of the wrappers like Plogue or DDMF?

The VST version of VB3 works fine in Plogue Bidule, and recently I've been using the VST version in DP8 (64bit) with Jbridge, also seems to be ok.
