Is it possible to route audio between apps?

I'm thinking about getting the Audio Express or the Ultralite Mk3 for my home studio. I'm wondering whether it's possible to route audio from one application to another using the MOTU mixer app? I'm using Record+Reason as my main environment, but occasionally I would like to record the output from external softsynths into Record.

I know that this is possible on the Focusrite Saffire series (since they explicitly describe this scenario), but there's no mention of it in the MOTU specs. I'd prefer to go with MOTU since I'd like to use the DC-coupled outputs to control my analog stuff...

Yes, you can do this with the MOTU drivers.

At least with the Audio Express, you will not be able to to attenuate the audio from the Mac as it sits with external audio sources. It is a set volume - FULL. That is, IMO, the only thing stopping me from snagging what is (or appears to be) an otherwise exception value.
