HD PCI-x
so with card I could run RTAS plug-ins in DP???? I may have a trade/cash which could get one of these for a reasonable price
MacPro 8core, 10MB, 4.5 TB, RME Fireface800, Presonus D8, JBL LSR4326P, Oz HM-6, Presonus HP60, Prism MMA-4XR, Bellari, ART, Altec Lansing, TC Helicon, BBE, 002R, PTLE 8.0, Reaper, Tascam TSR8, Hammond M3, Rhodes 88, Korg, Yamaha, too many guitars, and more mics than I need, and a bunch of plug-ins that seemed a good idea at the time
Re: HD PCI-x
You don't need an HD card to run RTAS plugs in PT. As to the connection with DP you'd have to run in dae mode and that became problematic in later versions of PT8. Don't know if the dae connection was fixed in PT9. Also if you do buy the HD card make sure you get the iLok asset to go with it.stainlessbrown wrote:so with card I could run RTAS plug-ins in DP???? Re: HD PCI-x
I don't have much desire to run PT, but i thought I understood it (somewhere) that with an HD card, I could run the RTAS plugins in DP? That's what i'm interested in.
I've sold my 002R and PTLE 8.0

Re: HD PCI-x
You can't, because without PT and the associated CoreAudio drivers the HD card won't work. Like I said before, even in PT you don't need an HD card to run RTAS plugins elsewise how could you run RTAS plugs in PTle?. The HD card essentially has no function outside of ProTools. All an HD card allows you to do is to run TDM plugs inside of PT and also functions as part of the audio I/O for PT. The HD card does not run RTAS plugs.stainlessbrown wrote:I don't have much desire to run PT, but i thought I understood it (somewhere) that with an HD card, I could run the RTAS plugins in DP? I understand you're not running PT but without that the HD card is of no use.
There's very few if any RTAS plugs that don't have an equivalent au or vst version. And there's no RTAS to au converter anyways so that gets back to the proposition that you would have to run an older version of PT that allowed dae to work with DP to get RTAS plugs to work with DP.

I'm learning to adapt- Spin is the one I really miss

Re: HD PCI-x
There's good news on the McDsp plugins - they are now useable in daw hosts other than PT - like DP, Logic, etc. That just came about this year when the new iLok came out. And if you ever want to run PT again (when you sold your PT8le and 002 I assume you also sold the iLok asset that came with it) with PT9 you don't need an Avid family audio I/O. You can use anything from the Mac's built-in audio to MOTU interfaces to Apogee stuff. That's a pretty expensive way to go though at almost $600 for a few plugs.stainlessbrown wrote:OK, I see (and thanks for the clarification)

Re: HD PCI-x
When I sold the 002R and PTLE I sold it only- I still have the iLok assets for the plug-ins I did sell the Massey plug-ins, but the others I got only offers of "will you trade for...." nothing that I was interested in
I'll look and see if McDSP has an AU, VST version
thanks

That's what I'm saying - McDsp has au versions of their plugs now.stainlessbrown wrote:When I sold the 002R and PTLE I sold it only- I still have the iLok assets for the plug-ins I did sell the Massey plug-ins, but the others I got only offers of "will you trade for...." nothing that I was interested in
