Audio Wire Connection Problem =Motu PCI-324 card

Post by birdland »

I'm running Logic 4.7 on an old sawtooth Mac G4, OS 9.22. Up 'til now everything has been wonderful. However I recently got this error message:

"An unexpected error occurred #19 AudioWire driver.cpp 1626 (-1000)".

I did the usual trouble-shooting, replaced drivers and so on. I decided to look inside the Mac with no coherent plan. I opened the side door lay it flat, wiggled the firewire cable=AudioWire and went back to the computer and fired up Logic. Lo and behold it worked! Joy!

Shaking my head I CLOSED the side panel of the Mac and the error etc is all as before. Opening and closing the Mac again doesn't help. Back to square one :-(

It looks very much as if the aperture-the opening-the socket bit where the cable plugs in is the likely culprit. I tested the "AudioWire" cable and it's fine. So, if it is that connection in the card...what should I do?

All and any help deeply appreciated.

Well, actually this isn't entirely true and hence there are some problems. On the MOTU-supplied Audiowire cables the part that connects to the PCI card is a little different. The metal part of the connector that seats down inside the socket on the PCI card is LONGER than on a standard firewire cable you'd buy in the store. Sometimes the solution is to take an exacto knife or dremel tool and shave back some of the plastic molding on the connector to expose more of the metal part of the connector so it seats further down into the socket on the PCI card.

Very interesting. Thing is, I'm using the cable that was supplied with the system and always worked. Do you think I should shave it back anyway just in case that's the reason for the problem?

Thanks for your reply by the way.
