I installed the samples on a separate (internal) drive from my system drive, in a folder called 'Miroslav Philharmonik CE'. I had to create that folder myself - the installer didn't create it, which seems lame to me. I couldn't get the plug-in to find the samples at first - apparently the installer didn't tell the plug-in where to find the samples.

I think what solved it was copying the Instruments folder (from Macintosh HD -> Library->Application Support ->IK Multimedia->Miroslav Philharmonik CE) to the samples folder on the other drive, and then going to the plug-in preferences and directing it to that folder.
Bob, are you saying that you had to install the samples on your startup drive? Is that the only way? I wonder if you could use an alias?
No - I installed the samples on a separate internal drive, and the other stuff on my system drive.
Shooshie wrote:Also, where in the preferences of the stand-alone app can you tell it where to find the data? Mine only has setup for audio and MIDI.
There's a little 'prefs' menu item at the bottom of the right-hand pane of the stand-alone version, at the far right (Save, delete, rename, search, net, prefs).

I guess I completely missed something here because honestly I remember getting a PDF or something that gave me pretty good instructions. I had ZERO problems and everything is working fine.

I downloaded and installed all the files: the app, and then the two disk images for the sounds.

I installed the app.

I installed the sounds by first creating a folder on my dedicated samples drive called "Miroslav Philharmonik CE Sounds" and then directed the installer to install into that folder

I then launched the app as standalone and authorized and then designated the directory for it to look for the sounds.

It is working great here and I had absolutely none of this trauma, so I'm perplexed. I was happy as a clam to have spent this $15.

Would you be willing to either post a link to the PDF or to post the PDF itself?

I got nothing. Honestly, this is the first time I have ever had this kind of problem installing something or even receiving it. Actually, never mind. I should just write the seller and tell them they need to send EVERYTHING to me as if we were starting over with the sale. This is the seller's fault. They screwed up and didn't correct it. When they replied to my last letter they only sent me the serial number and a password. Nothing else. The only link they ever sent me was a general link to their website. Everything I've found so far was done through detective work. If you got a PDF, then something's wrong here, and the dad-blasted seller needs to fix it, so don't bother to post a link.

It's a tiny little bit of text to the far right of the actual interface that says "Prefs". Kinda hard to see.

Thanks Buzzy and Bob. That helped.

You do know that it has TWO preferences, right? I didn't bother to click that little button, because I had already opened the preferences several times, and the preferences in the menu does not have a browse button.

My mistake. My ignorance. My stupidity. I should have realized that any good sample interface would have TWO preferences, and that they would be completely different. DUH!

Even so, it would not navigate to the invisible one. I had to reinstall the sounds in a new folder that I created, since it originally installed them in an invisible folder that could only be found through clues and special techniques.

Maybe this will work fine in the end, but methinks I'll not do business with these people anymore. I'm just going to stick to companies which cater to morons like me, providing serial numbers, passwords, links, instructions and all that. I mean, it was really, really fun doing the detective work to find all that, and who knew that the final clue was that there are TWO PREFERENCES? But now that the game is pretty much over (though I still have not gotten a sound out of it), I'm going to relax and forget to buy anything from them ever again.

Sorry for all the commotion. Really. I never intended to bother anyone, and I'm amazed that I got most of it done without instructions, but it was darned frustrating.

I found the documentation.

Macintosh HD:Library:Documentation:IK Multimedia:Miroslav Philharmonik CE:

There are 3.

Hope that helps...hasn't helped me, yet! :mumble:

I don't know why it went so smoothly for me. I don't know if there was a PDF or I just screen captured a browser window somewhere along the process but I can't find it. I got these instructions emailed to me:
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Register your serial number at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/registration" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

*** If this is your first IK product, you'll receive your username and password for the user area after completing step 1 above. ***

2. Log into the IK user area at https://www.ikstore.com/Login/IKLogin.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and download Miroslav CE from the Downloads section.

*** You'll also need to download your sounds from the SOUNDS DOWNLOAD section of the user area separately. ***

3. After downloading, install the plug-in and sounds. Now download the new IK Authorization Manager below to authorize your plug in at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/authorizationmanager" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This will simplify & speed up your authorizations process. After downloading and installing, simply open the Manager and follow the on-screen instructions to finalize your authorization.

If you run into any problems, please contact IK MULTIMEDIA Support at http://www.ikmultimedia.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and then click the SUPPORT tab.
Really, all I did was what I described and I was able to designate a destination folder with the sounds installers. I wish I had thought to document all this as I went along. :(

Just want to report that I just purchased it and the process went unexpectedly smooth.

At first, I could not see any instrument at the list area. I thought I have the problem that Shooshie had. Then I just accidentally right click on that area and the list just appeared. It is weird...

Thanks for the heads up.

James, I managed to find those instructions, but they were not mailed to me, nor was there a link to them. I found them after clicking all over their website. If not for them, I wouldn't have been able to get it downloaded, but they didn't provide me with those. I had to search all over for them.

But even those do not explain the other problems I had. I've got it working now. The final clencher was the two separate Preferences. Had I suspected they might be different, even though they are both named Preferences, then I would have been further along.

Of course, the invisible folder thing didn't help the process, either.

Now I'm trying to learn how to use controllers and such in the interface itself. It's not just throwing answers at me. A bit of documentation would help, but Buzzy says he found it. I'm going to look there now, and maybe this whole thing will be past me.

Thanks for trying to help! And sorry for all the posts. It just got frustrating. This is the first time I have EVER had this kind of trouble. I guess sooner or later we all get our turn.

Shoosh
[Edit: Buzzy, thanks for the documentation tip. I have that in front of me now, and things should go smoothly now. I don't know what made you think to look there, but I'm glad you did.]

I can't take too much credit!

Somehow I stumbled across it this morning and it was still showing up in Recent Items...I opened it from that (default Adobe Reader) and chose the document's "Properties" which revealed it's path.

If you figure out why I'm not hearing (although seeing listed) the sounds I mentioned in an earlier post, let me know!

OK, I re-bought it just now. But only because of the teaser about a follow-on deal. I figure fifteen dollars isn't much, and disc space is cheaper than when I sold the original full edition. After all, it's less than I've spent on bad libraries (most from PMI and Sampletekk -- though a few of their are good) that I ended up deleting from my hard drive.

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting my setup.
This 3 preferences scheme is disturbing. Can't see why it's laid like that.
But once you're done, let's face the facts: these samples are darn good sounding. IMHO, incredible value for the money.

That right there is the bottom line for me. $15? :woohoo:

I wonder when this runs out? I have a friend who doesn't keep up on this sort of stuff. Probably because he has me to call him and let him know about these deals... LOL.

I didn't see any indication of an end date, but those audiomidi.com no-brainers are funny as some of them last for a year or more!

My installation, registration and authorization went very smoothly.

The Classik Edition does not include any wind-controller based patches.

Nevertheless, I re-tried what was there, in several categories, and was reminded how well-recorded this library is.

It simply isn't as versatile as more modern libraries, but it can also work well for layering.

And as Shooshie already noted, the bassoon is quite nice, and of course the vibrato-based horn is unique.

The choir sampling is quite small, but usable. I may still find occasional use for it even though I own the full Vienna Choirs library. I find it easier to work with than EWQL Symphonic Choirs.
