Re: Digital Performer Tips, Edited
The idea of grouping them is to make it easier to select, say, "Volume" as the active layer. If you're about to paste automation into 6 tracks, you can select them, hold down T, and choose "Volume," and they all switch to Volume. It makes it faster than choosing each one separately. If you think that needs clarifying, I can do that; I'm just not sure it's necessary.
At first, I couldn't even find the word breakpoint in the index, though I did finally locate it in the automation section, on pages 401- 404. I'm surprised that the manual said "paste as usual." Even though it added at the end of the paragraph, "if you wish to preserve the soundbites at the location where you are pasting, use Merge instead of Paste," I still think it's a good tip, though it's one most people probably figure out themselves after watching their soundbites disappear and hitting undo. I'm for leaving it in the tip sheet, if you are. What do you think?

Re: Digital Performer Tips, Edited
I'm definitely for leaving it in the tip sheet! It's already helped MT, so I hope it'll save others some time and frustration. I just wanted to correct my statement about the old manual.
And no need to clarify the temporary group thing - it's fine as-is! Here I just wanted to mention that the multiple copy/merge thing isn't available.
By the way, another possibility is holding down the option key while selecting the active layer; this selects it in all the tracks in the SE window, though that might already in the tips list somewhere...

Thanks much to Shooshie and everyone that contributed. I'd also add keeping a master fader level plug (trim, L2, Inspector XL, etc.) visible when mixing for a visual, even when the MBoard is scrolled far from the Master fader.

Hi, the DP database (in mysql, and CSV format) and a perl script to query it is on my site in download section, just scroll down it's at the bottom of the page. It contains all the tips untill today, author and cathegory. If you have mysql installed (it's free but not easy to use for a newbie in db language) you can download from the cpan site the dbi and dbd modules for perl, installing them you can run the script I attached that permit you to query the database by author, keyword in the title of the tip and keyword (or keywords) within the tip using TerminalWhat (and where) is this database you're referring to? -thanks

2) If you select an audio track and press shift-F, it will open its upper-most plug-in.

Jeez, I'm reading my own post and realized it's wrong!!Originally posted by buddhabelly:

It should be double clicking the lane of the VI track in the tracks overview window, and it should be an empty spot, because if you have MIDI data there, then obviously it'll open your edit window of choice.

Re: Digital Performer Tips, Edited
Hey Shooshie, here is another one that can be changed into theme and variations, you can join it to the adjust beats tip. I copied it from I reply I posted in another thread:
Tempo maping from a live performance:
DP has several ways to create a tempo map from a live performance; one of them is through tap tempo, where you tap along with the recorded music creating the barlines; another one is adjust beats where you physically move the barlines to accommodate them to the performance, there are both very well explained, step by step, on the manual.
Another procedure, Beat Detection, is a little bit trickier, because requires to follow strictly every step or it won't work. The steps might vary depending on the music program and the goal that you want to accomplish. Here is the general procedure:
1- On the Sequence Editor select the soundbite where you want to extract the tempo map from.
2- Go to the Wave Editor, click inside the soundbite and select all.
3- In the "beats" mini menu (WE) choose find beats in selection.
4- Press the beat tab to see the beats. Zoom in at will.
5- Edit the beats if necessary. this step is very important, because if the beats are not placed where they are supposed to be, or if there are too many (or too few). the tempo will not be calculated correctly. You can add, delete or disable beats. You can also adjust the beat sensitivity and beat detection (audio menu).
6- Go to the SE, select the soundbite and choose Audio menu>soundbite tempo>Analyze soundbite tempo.
7- Set the tempo control to conductor track.
8- With the soudbite still selected choose audio menu>Adjust Sequence to Soundbite Tempo.
9- Play back the sequence with the click, it should match the performance tempo.

Sorry, Shooshie... your post got truncated in the conversion. I can probably get it all back from the UBB database. If you have a local copy can you edit your message and repost it as a new slightly renamed topic. I have made you moderator status, so there should be an option when you post it to make it a sticky.
