DP 7.22 bounced .mov crashing QTPro 7.66?

Post by williemyers »

h'lo all, wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.

the "Players":
OS 10.6.5
DP 7.22
QTPro 7.66
QT 10
PTools 9

as many of you, once I've finished a cue, I bounce it to a QT .mov, open in QTPro, scale it down and send it to the prod/dir/client for approval.
has worked pretty flawlessly for years, one of DP's best features.

all of a sudden, I do one (the first one I've done in DP 7.22) the way I always have and I can see the resultant .mov on the drive. but when i try and open that file in QTPro, it (QTPro) crashes on open every time I try and open the DP-created .mov. One odd thing is that the DP-created .mov *will* open o.k. in QT10 and will open in the Finder preview. Just not in QTPro.

I thought, right off the bat, that it was probably a QTPro problem. But then, I opened a new PTools file, drug the tracks (orig. movie w/audio & band mix) in to the PTools session and made a PTools bounce-to-movie. And *that* resulting .mov will open just fine in QTPro.

So, now I'm thinking that it *may* be something in DP 7.22. anyone else had similiar issues with "bounce to movie" files?

many thanks,

a bit more info that may shed some light on what DP (7.22) may be doing to bounced .mov's:

my original .mov's QT7.66Pro Movie Inspector window shows "Format:H.264..."etc. and a frame rate of 23.98

BUT

the .mov made by DP (via a bounce-to-QT), when opened in QT10's movie inspector window, shows "Format:Apple Photo-JPEG..."etc. and a frame rate of 24.02

hmmm.....

o.k., tried a new sequence with a new .mov, and *this* time, DP7.22 made a H.264 bounce - which opens just fine in QTPro 7.66.
why it made the "Apple Photo-JPEG" bounce out of the previous movie, I haven't a clue :? :? :? both .mov's were "H.264" when brought in to DP 7.22.

I've had some odd behaviour with QT movies bounced out of DP, which I suspect may have something to do with DP's creating black frames beyond the bounds of the original file (or maybe generating punches/streamers in the QT). I often do a conversion in QT Pro afterwards, just to make sure it's going to be compatible.
