MOTUnation NAMM Dinner!
I just wanted to take a minute to remind everyone about the upcoming MOTU NAMM Dinner!
It is Friday Jan. 14, 2011, 7:00p, The El Torito Restaurant (where else?) 2020 E. Ball Rd., Anaheim, CA 92806.
For those attending NAMM, we meet at the MOTU booth around 5:45p friday afternoon so that anyone who needs a ride to the dinner can get one. Anyone who doesn't know who I am can just walk up to the handsome guy in a suit standing around the MOTU booth and say "Hi Jim!" That will be Jim Cooper, and he can point you towards me. ;-/
This will be our 14th annual dinner (we managed to survive last year's 13th!), the 14th dinner on the 14th, that sounds good! The swag this year will of course be very cool and maybe even functional (not sure yet). Once again there are rumors of manufacturer gift swag! I said rumors...
This is our chance to show & tell the hard working MOTU guys & gals how much we appreciate all their hard work over the past year.
As usual, this is a "no host" affair. What this means: we each pay our own way, plus a little extra to cover our honored guests, the MOTU guys. As it turns out, their Cambridge dollars are no good out here on the left coast. Often we get a guest appearance from some plugin developers as well.
You do not have to be a NAMM attendee to go to the dinner, you can bring a friend, date, or anyone you would like.
Here's the W,W,W,W,W:
Who: You + the tragically hip MOTU guys
What: Dinner, cocktails, SWAG!
When: Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 7:00pm
Where: El Torito Restaurant, 2020 East Ball Road, Anaheim, CA 92806 (714) 956.4880
Why: Why? Because we like you!
Please respond to this message as an RSVP. It's always good to get a head count for the restaurant.
Hope to see you there!

Re: MOTUnation NAMM Dinner!
I have yet to go to one of these (though this will be my 13th NAMM show), so I will say that this is the year that I make an appearance.
Count me in.

I will say to all who attend: please make sure to chip in enough for your part of the bill and a little extra to help cover the MOTU guys' part of the tab. They are our guests. If you don't think that's fair-- and some have said so-- then don't come. Those are the rules.
Every year, a few people have slunk out of there not chipping in their fair share and we've had a shortfall that has had to be made up.

Re: MOTUnation NAMM Dinner!
Won't be making the trip this year, though I'm glad to hear MOTU is still participating in the show, unlike so many other software vendors that have bailed on NAMM. I had a six year run at the MOTU-MAC NAMM dinner. Not bad I think. Maybe I'll make it back next year... who knows.. Hope to see some pictures!

Re: MOTUnation NAMM Dinner!
I'll be making the NAMM show this year. This will be the first time I've ever attended NAMM and I am so looking forward to it. We will also be attending the Golden Globes on Sunday. Should be a fun weekend.
I won't be able to make the dinner, but I will definitely be going by the MOTU booth to say hi to the guys & gals there. Friday night, I think we will be at the skybar. Hope you guys have a great dinner.

Man, that would be fun. I would love to shoot the sh*t with those guys and see just how much grief I caused them last year. Let's time a toast so I can at least be there in spirit. A Happy New Year to all of you!!

We're a company that makes software who hasn't bailed on NAMM and I'll do my best to be there. Thanks!

Re: MOTUnation NAMM Dinner!
Anybody is welcome but there are some things to be aware of. As Jim said we have a dining room to ourselves at the Anaheim El Torito. It is NOT walking distance so we meet by the MOTU booth around close of show and then we figure out who has vehicles and who doesn't and we figure car pool assignments, etc.
The other thing you MUST be aware of as I'm sure Jim mentioned is that we all chip in a little extra to cover the TIP and the tab of the MOTU guys. The MOTU folks' money is no good that night. It's our tradition and been that way from the start and not going to change. It's our way of showing a little appreciation one day out of the year. In the past someone posted here (or on the MOTU-MAC list, I forget which) that they didn't think they should have to chip in to cover the MOTU people. Some of you may recall my response. I told that person NOT TO COME. Dead serious. If you're not willing to honestly calculate the cost of your meal, tip, and kick in an extra 5 bucks to help cover our guests from MOTU, you should not attend. Every year we have had a shortfall that has to be made up and I'm hoping to avoid that.
Any way, if you're coming it wouldn't hurt to PM Jim Watson, the original poster and just give him a heads up so we have some idea of a head count. The dining room easily holds 30-40 people, so we should be okay.

In my concern, I was only joking, because I know that kind of event costs a lot and is generally
more business oriented. Second, there are people who deserve to be there. I hope it will be a good meeting.
