Upgrading from Tiger to...

Upgrading from Tiger to...
I have an Intel model 2.16 GHz Intel core 2 Duo and it came from the factory with 10.4 and at this time it is just doing some slave work.
When i checked it with DiskUtilities it shows GUID format which is think is the Apple standard for Intel Mac's.
Time to upgrade that old monster.
However when i start up from the Snow Leopard installer DVD the Hard drive has a yellow warning triangle icon and therefore can't run the installer.
Now what ?

My off the cuff guess is you have to reformat the disk to use under snow leopard.
I bet if you run Disk Utilities it would allow you to format the disc. You may have to backup the drive to an external first??? Dunno.

Sorry for quickly going O.T., but how do you like your new iMac performance-wise compared to your old one? As you can see from my sig, I have a 2.16 intel and run Tiger. I'm starting to get antsy about upgrading.
Do you have a 21.5 or 27 inch screen? Given that bus speed is as important as computer speed for DP, and times being what they are, I've been considering going mid level vs. a tricked out i7 quad-core.
Anyway, hope you get help on your upgrade! I'm curious as well.

You have to update the disk drivers. Boot from the install disk. Go to Disk Utilities.

Ended up formatting ( erasing ) with Apple's Disk Utilities and only then Snow Leopard would allow the installation.
Local apple tech genius said that there was a dramatic change not only in the updating protocol but also in the structure.
Although, the procedure of archival installation has been in my experience a huge improvement. In fact just recently after doing the 10.6.5 update i had to drop back to 10.6.4 and that was breezy eazy.
: 21.5 inch screen and that for me is right size: i've tried the 27 incher and it is too large when i do any drag/drop mousing.Do you have a 21.5 or 27 inch screen?

did that with no luck. You have to update the disk drivers. Boot from the install disk. Go to Disk Utilities.

Re: Upgrading from Tiger to...
I read about a solution to this on a French forum last night.
Apparently it can be done by starting up the Mac you want to update in "T" mode, put the installation disc in a second Mac connected via Firewire, run the installer and select the Tiger Mac for the installation. That's that essence of what was described.

One thing though you can do is try something like USB Overdrive or in my case I have to use Logitech Control Center. I have a 30" screen and fine tuning mouse acceleration etc. really makes it easy to work with a large screen.midiw wrote:i've tried the 27 incher and it is too large when i do any drag/drop mousing.

Re: Upgrading from Tiger to...
Here's the link where I saw the solution described:
http://forum.mac4ever.com/impossible-in ... 29707.html
It implies that it's for archive and install, and says that the Mac with the installation disc is already running Leopard.
