None of my DP 7.2x files show the version number when I Get Info, either.

Same - I don't see the version number when I click on a DP file icon
and choose Get Info. I just see "Open With" followed by "DP 7.21".
I ask again, though - does this matter? If the file opens and works
properly, I don't think it does.

Re: Virusbarrier X6 scan says DP7.21 files are corrupted
i say again, according to Intego this change can crash mac os x, and that's unacceptable. i dont care if the file launches safely 1000 times, if a known issue can cause the system to go down, fix the issue. (at least) two independent credible file utility applications are reporting theres a file structure problem - fix the problem.David Polich wrote:I ask again, though - does this matter? Re: Virusbarrier X6 scan says DP7.21 files are corrupted
Resource forks are deprecated in Mac OS X v10.6, so you have to question the relevance of this "problem." Although Intego may be giving you the most cautious explanation (and I agree that they should), I don't recall ever seeing a file with a broken resource fork crash the operating system. Additionally, if this were a serious problem that might crash DP or the OS, don't you think there would be many more people on this forum complaining about it?
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
Re: Virusbarrier X6 scan says DP7.21 files are corrupted
i dont think too many people know about it. i didnt know about it two weeks ago and i wouldnt have known about it if i hadnt run a scan which i've only done maybe twice in the last 3 years. and i think of those who do know, most dont care. but if i look at the release notes of each DP revision, i dont care about most of those things that were fixed - i cant recall experiencing any of DPs fixed issues that supposely would have/could have cause the program to crash. but someone cared enuff to bring it to MOTU's attention and i'm grateful that a potention problem was addressed, even if it didnt affect me at all.1nput0utput wrote:Resource forks are deprecated in Mac OS X v10.6, so you have to question the relevance of this "problem." I just think that there has been way too much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth about this issue even though it causes no apparent side effects besides the version number not being displayed in Finder.

Agreed. Personally, for me, this is a total non-issue. Jotff, I
appreciate your concern but I just can't get as worked up about a
"potential" problem that "might" cause problems.

Re: Virusbarrier X6 scan says DP7.21 files are corrupted
Weird not having that happen here. I'm sort of of the school that wonders if your DP projects are playing as they should and they're backed up... well what's the problem? I guess report it to MOTU via techlink or something.

Re: Virusbarrier X6 scan says DP7.21 files are corrupted
Well, a couple of people are having problems with 7.21 files that have been saved. But those are people that are using a utility that looks at files, assesses them, and maybe tries to fix them. Maybe the attempt to fix the resource forks is what creates the problem.

Elderly??? ELDERLY???bayswater wrote:Some elderly members may recall when Norton Utilities was doing this.

Seriously though, I remember that Norton Utilities had such a bad reputation on the Mac, that it was pretty much to be avoided like the plague.

I'm sorry... maybe I missed something but I thought you had to be in your 70s or something to be called elderly! I'm still a good ways from getting discounts on my movie tickets or ordering of the special page on the Denny's menu.bayswater wrote:OK, so maybe you had Macs in grade school.James Steele wrote:

Part of the cause of my discomfort with this is that I've got all of my files, and I mean all of them, on my internal drives. The only ones that DW flags are those saved by DP7.2x. When one talks about standing out like the proverbial, it's, well, hard to ignore completely.
I sincerely hope for all our sakes that this turns out to be nothing but a brief, inconsequential anomaly.
