reverted back to v2.01

Post by geoffg »

I decided to try reverting back to v2.01 from my install disk because v2.02 has bug that limits the number of modulation sources to just 1. So, for example, in v2.02 you can't assign keytracking and an envelope to the filter cutoff. Pretty basic problem that I made them aware of (a couple years ago!) but still not fixed.

Amazingly, v2.01 seems to be working great and I now can add multiple mod sources again. I'm guessing I'll run into other bugs with this version, but I'm so happy to have my mod sources back. Feels like a truly programmable synth sampler again!

... and it's only been 3 years since the last update. Kind of feels like a car company that has stopped making part after just a couple of years.

After using 2.01 for awhile, I realize that it had some bugs that v2.02 fixed. I think v2.02 might be a little more stable, but v2.01 is a little better for sound design because it doesn't have the bug that prevents multiple mod sources. I'll probably leave mine at v2.01 despite the bugs. It's a shame because I end up not using it as much as I'd like. Instead I turn to other samplers because I'm afraid of it's instability. But I really love the user interface of machfive.

Btw, is it possible to create a patch with desired filter modulation in 2.01 and then open in it in 2.02?

Yes, that works. I think I'll keep a copy of v2.01 to run as standalone when I need the modulation editing capabilities, and then use v2.02 for the plug in version. Thanks for the idea.

Did you manage to install both versions to the same system? As soon as I install 2.0.2 (even to separate folder) the bug appears in 2.0.1.

No, unfortunately, I've just got 2.02 running (standalone and plug in.) I thought I had 2.01 running standalone for awhile, but I can't remember!
