Buying DP now. Need advice.

Post by antonborisov »

After long research and tries I've decided to use DP as my main DAW. I have a couple of questions, though.

First, I would like to order it as soon as possible, but I'm not sure if it safe to do so at the moment. Basically, I have an access to DP at friend's studio, so it's not a problem to wait couple of months or so.The time gap between 6 and 7 was pretty small and 7 was released year ago. So, when MOTU will release DP 8, what do you think? Could they do that in early months?

Second, I really liked Emagic/Logic's ESX24. I know there are quite a few alternatives, but I don't like Kontakt at all and other samplers didn't impress me to. I've read many good things about MachFive, so it is obviously could be the sampler of choice. However, it's also quite old and it's a bit scary to pay for the product if it is to be updated or even dropped soon. So the question is the same - would you buy it now?

If it's your main DAW, why not buy it now? Eventually there will be a DP8, but you won't need to jump on it immediately, but no one knows when it will be out. They are continuing to do updates to v7, so if it were me, I'd get it now.

It depends on your budget I guess. If you like it and can afford it, it really is a flexible quality sampler (unlike the EXS24 which might be quality, but isn't flexible owing to being stuck inside of Logic).

The upgrade path will not be as expensive as buying the app at DP 8, so there's really not logic in waiting on that front, IMO.

MachFive ver 2 is great. I don't worry about it being abandoned but I agree it has not seen an update in a long time.

Don't forget you can get a crossgrade price from MOTU if you already own a DAW.

I own logic, Protools, and DP 7.21 and Mach Five 2. Dp is the best for me hands down!!! I also hate Kontakt and Mach five is easier and more flexible. They haven't updated it in a while but if it isn't broke don't fix it!! Take the plunge you'll love it.

So, you're *not* buying DP now? :?:

LOVE MachFive v2, but unless you plan to mostly roll your own sample libraries (which it is outstandingly great at) I would not buy it at the moment. Kontakt 4 is convoluted, but peerless in depth and especially in the number of outstanding libraries released for it. And unfortunately, importing current Kontakt libraries into MachFive never works right, unless the library is *very* basic (which hardly any are anymore.)

Now, DP7 you should order right this second. Go. Now. Get it. It's awesome. :smash:

Who cares when DP8 comes (won't be all that soon, anyway...)

I am. I placed order last Friday for both DP and MachFive and also MX4. Quite a lot of money for third-world country where I'm from, I might say. And pretty risky investment too (no 64 bit, 3 years old updates and so on).

Say welcome to new DP user, anyway. :D

Lol, thanks, but I try not to drink in the middle of the week.

I reside in Moscow. As for these guys, they probably did a good stuff earlier, not sure what's happening now. I'm more into electronic music.

Think of it as a fiscal week - it can start and end at anytime...
