SQ: Anyone here have and using the QuickSilver G4
Just curious if you have and are using a QuickSilver PowerMac G4.
How do you like it and does it do the job with DP and other sequencer programmes ?

Re: SQ: Anyone here have and using the QuickSilver G4
Up until about a month ago I had an 867mhz Single G4 quicksilver. It ran great, and with 1.5gigs of ram, it was a pretty good machine. I recorded alot with dp4.52 on it, and could get about 20 tracks going with about 2 plugs each with no problem. I recently bought a new powerbook for the portability.
Powerbook G4 1.67ghz (15"), 828mkII, rockit 8 monitors, and lots of coffee on those long late night sessions.

Thanks for your reply/interest in my post.
Actually I went ahead and purchased the QuickSilver G4 dual 1 Gig cpu with 1.5 GB RAM.
At this time I still have to tweek some preference settings in DP 4.52 ( PANTHER ) because I am having some crashing. Although they are never consistent as to what I do with DP.
Maybe my system preference settings have to tweeked.
When I figure that one out I'll take it for a ride in TIGER which I have installed on another internal hard drive.
Never had that problem with my G4 dual 450 Mhz process with 1.5 GB RAM.

Using a G4 Quicksilver with 1.5 GB ram and all is stable here. DP 4.6, OS 10.3.9. Also using battery 2, autotune 4, EWQL silver edition, no crashes. Not running very high track counts 15 to 30,some waves plugs, plus MIDI. All is good. Tried the MX 4 demo and some presets maxed out the CPU and an organ patch on EWQL did the same. Otherwise still a very usable machine.
Mac Pro 2x2.4 quad core /24 gb ram/OS 10.13.6, Dp 10.13, MTP AV, /UAD 2, KOMPLETE 12, Stylus RMX, SD 3.0, EZ Drummer 3, A&H ZED R 16.
Re: SQ: Anyone here have and using the QuickSilver G4
Well folks the problem with me QuickSilver was "heat"!
My mac tech guy installed a couple of external fans. He showed me that the design in the early versions of QuickSilver were stupid. For example placement of the video card prevented all the fan power to be directed at the heat sink. Also the fan has a difficult time of drawing IN air because the case does not have any grill screen to allow outside air to flow in. It's a beautifull case but poorly designed.

Using a 2001 Quciksilver with a Sonnet 1.4 gHz processor and 1.25 GB RAM and about 140GB of internal drives with another 60GB+ FireWire drives. Running current Mac OS 10.4.2 and DP 4.6 with MachFive and MX4 (flat screen 19" Viewsonic).
Runs like a charm. Heat is not an issue whatsoever, even with loaded PCI slots.
Just lucky, I guess.

Re: SQ: Anyone here have and using the QuickSilver G4
Well folks my mac tech guy is rebuilding this QuickSilver.
He had to install a new superdrive.
It was obvious that the original superdrive was abused/overused and also fairly old technology trying to run in Panther and Tiger.

Your's must have been the first revision. I got my dual gig Quicksilver right after the mirror door model came out and have had none of the problems you mention. Works great. DP 4.6 & OSX.3.9.
