Bounce 5.1 not working...

Hi Folks

I've spent 8 hours trying to work this one through... I think I've checked all the variables, including following the advice of Ronin at MOTU. Here's what's happening: no matter what I try, after running my 6 DP bounced files through Compressor 3.5's AC3 setting, my DVDs burn as stereo. If I use the same Compressor AC3 droplet with files from a DVDSP tutorial book I had laying around (also named correctly R,L,C,Ls,Rs,LFE) and import the book's AC3 file into same DVDSP project, it burns a 5.1 DVD. This happens over and over... I can't figure this out!

I start with a DP surround project- sounds great through system; bounce to my 5.1 bundle; DP makes 6 files labelled correctly. I've looked at these files in Peak and they indeed have audio on them. I tried an empty project/different project; I actually imported the book files into DP, panned them appropriately, bounced, did the AC3 thing as above and the DVD ended up burning as stereo. I use a Bass Management plug (disabled for bounce) and a 5.1 Trim on the Master track. That's all. It just seems that whatever I bounce from DP burns as stereo.

Maybe someone has advice?

Talkin' to myself again... since I must mail off 5.1 video DVDs to a show I'm in, I had to find a way to make work this asap - here's an odd workaround: I took the 6 bounced DP files and imported them in SoundTrack Pro 3 putting each on its own surround track panned hard in appropriate direction and bounced to AC3 from within STP. Stuck the AC3 file into my DVDSP project from before, and it makes a 5.1 DVD! Why would that be?? Something is off with DP7 me thinks...
