Help needed, headphones for mixing
OK guy's here is the deal. I'm in a position where I am going to have and use headphones to mix in. I know it's not recommneded, and trust me I know better; but given the present circumstances I have know choice. I need the best recommendations on headphones for mixing and mastering that you can give me. Thank you all N_Advance Kmixx..
Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
Problem solved,Etymotic ER4's will get the job done.

Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
Sennheisers HD280 is my choice. A lot of studios use the Sony 7506s as well, but I prefer the Senns.

I like the HD280's as well. Do you find often what you mix in those headphones accurately reflex's what the final product becomes or do you compensate for certain things?Originally posted by LaptopPop:

The Etymotic ER-4 Micro Pro were highly recommend. However I haven't had a chance to test them myself. I will be checking out both the HD280"s and 7506's. Accuracy and a decent low end is important, hopefully one of these will fit the bill. Speaking of low's, how do the HD280"s and 7506's responed? And thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
Sorry, I just use the 280s during tracking and to check things out. Sometimes I hear things in the headphones that get past me in the monitors, so I use them as a backup check. I do all my mixing on monitors.Originally posted by terance:

Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
Makes good sense LaptopPop. I do the same but I don't trust my RCA monitors so I do my mixing on the 280's which I know is a pure sound sin but what are you going to do. I just never put pair of great Adam or Mackie monitors in my budget. My room has to be conditioned better even before I make that leap. I then make copies of my mix and listen back on a set of small Roland monitors then my Sony boom box then listen in my little Honda Civic. I use my studio monitors to get a feel for the mix at high levels and then I can stand back and see if I can hear everything I wanted to hear.

Ya I know it's a sound sin, but it will only be for minute. I actually have a pair of Mackie HR824's but I won't be able to access my gear for about another six months. I,m military currently in Riyadh Suadi Arabia, I had to put all of my gear in storage prior to coming here. The good thing is that made back up DVD's of the album that I was working on and left them with my sister. I will be returnin home next month, where I have a new Dual 2.0 G5 5.5GB RAM, 828MKII, 2 Powercore MKII's, Sony Oxfordd plug and apps waiting for me. That's why I need the headphones,
So that I can finish mixing the album. I know it's a hell of a sob sorry, but its true.

Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
The HR824's are tops mixx! I have read allot about the Ultrasone PROLine 750's and how they are the shizit. If I had the cash I'd go for them when I mix in the studio.

Re: Help needed, headphones for mixing
I've been leaning in the direction of ultrasone Proline 750's, but I am also considering the Etymotic ER4's. I'm going to check them both out when I get back. I really like the isolation concept of the ER4's. And the way the Ultrasone's deliver sound is kick ass as well, not to mention the MU Metal bufferboard, reduction of field emissions . Only a hand first hand sample will tell the story. I will let you guys know my finding in Sep.
