ultralite mk3: noise over firewire when mac on battery?

hi all. wondering if anyone has had a situation where they've tried to run the motu ultralite mk3 over firewire to their mac laptop on battery, and gotten a lot of noise that sounds kind of windy and choppy. plugging the mac in causes the noise to go away. thanks.
