nearfield cables

Post by niken »

Hello

I use the Meyer Sound HM-1 nearfield monitors.

I just want to know what brand of speakercables do you use?
Are there any professional brands? Till now I always used regular XLR microphonecable.

Thanks

Honestly, I make all my own cables now. I still use the ones I bought before I started making my own, however. But one day I walked into a music store and they wanted $130 for four 4-foot balanced cables. I walked out and went to my nearest electronics store, bought quality parts and some solder, and now all my cables are exactly the length I need them to be, with good plugs and reinforced ends.

Agree. There are plenty of ways to spend a bunch of bucks, Mogami will give you excellent performance, very high quality, and you won't spend a fortune on them.

I mkae most of my cables, when I can afford to, or if they are on sale, I buy Mogami or Markertek. To be honest, making cables is a pain in the ass. Unless it's a custom cable, usually it is cheaper to get one off the shelf. When making my own I stick to starquad, use nuetril and Canare connectors, silver solder, and shoe goo. The shoe goo goes in after the soldering and I have tested the cable. It keeps things seperate and since I started doing it havent had any problems.

I Have the HD-1s as well. Use Monster's top-of-the-line studio Pro cables [whatever they call them] and they sound great and resist all interference from surrounding cables and RF.
Man if I had time to build my own cables I would so be out of the studio doing something else.
