URGENT HELP NEEDED! DP NOT SENDING PROGRAM CHANGES- Resolved
Hi all - I'm at rehearsal now for an upcoming major tour, and I am really in a bind - I cannot get DP 7.1 to transmit program changes. I have them set as
"default patch" numbers at the beginning of each sequence - MIDI activity window shows DP getting MIDI transmission in from connected controllers -
connected controllers can send a program change and it shows up in MIDI activity window - but DP itself just won't transmit a program change.
Any help hugely appreciated - in fact, the whole tour is going to be in jeopardy if I don't figure this out - thanks!

David,
If you can... download MIDI Monitor from Snoize... It can tell you if DP is actually transmitting the Program Changes on playback.

Just in case, check INPUT FILTERS to ensure that patch changes are selected (and note that Input Filters are different than VIEW Filters).

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED! DP NOT SENDING PROGRAM CHANGES
Truly strange. FWIW, I woudn't rely on the default patch... maybe because I'm old school. I like to embed the patch change at the head of the MIDI track, so it's sent during the count in or whatever, although I imagine it's vastly more comforting to see your patches change to the correct ones upon loading a project instead of hitting play and hoping the they're going to be sent.
OTOH, if you put them on the first tick of the empty count in measure(s), you could double-bump the space bar quickly to send them and verify they're sent and then hit [1] (numeric key) to rewind and hit play again.

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED! DP NOT SENDING PROGRAM CHANGES - SOLVED
It was a defective MIDI Timepiece AV. That problem is solved, but
I have a new one - which I have posted about.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED! DP NOT SENDING PROGRAM CHANGES
How are you writing these cues? Just a plain old patch change? Or are you doing the coarse/fine resolutions? What controllers? Or are you doing what amounts to a GM SysEx message?
There can be some ambiguity when someone says "Control Change" or "Program Change." Are you just using Patch Change? Or Patch Change plus Controller 32?
In any case, I suggest you get MIDI Monitor from http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to watch what's going on in either direction.
Do the recipients of this program change have Local Only setup? Or are they accepting MIDI and MIDI Program Changes? All I can tell you is that when I record program changes from my Kurzweil to DP, they get recorded in the track correctly, and then when I play them back, they get sent exactly as they were recorded. MIDI Monitor shows this working properly. When I play back the track, program changes are performed correctly, along with notes and their respective sounds for the patches that are selected.
There are a lot of things that can trip you up. Output to correct MIDI channel? Local on/off? MIDI on/off. Multiple controller data simultaneously outputting as one command?
Are recipients looking for a GM command consisting of 3 parts? Old-school patch change consisting of 2 parts?
Etc.
It's hard to envision what you're doing with only "patch change" and "program change" listed. Can you be more specific? Tell us what controllers are involved, in what order? (Again, MIDI Monitor at the above link is instrumental in observing this.)
I'm on my way to bed, but will check this thread in the morning. Meanwhile, don't freak; DP 7.1 is sending and receiving all the above just fine. At least it is on my system. Just quietly go through all the possible problems. Do you have incoming audio correctly routed from that box or those boxes? Maybe they are making the proper changes, but you're not hearing them. (long shot, but hey, just running questions by you) Anyway, I can assure you that it's working fine over here. Check your I/O, especially regarding MIDI channels. When I first tested it, I thought the same thing was happening to me until I realized I was receiving Channel 4, but sending on Channel 1. Little goofs like that can happen to anyone now or again. But DP 7.1 DOES send all the above information properly. I guarantee it. I'm watching and hearing it do so right now.

Oh sh*t. I should have read the latest posts. Well... now we all know, anyway, that it wasn't DP.
