JV1080 and Sytem 10.5.8

Post by AllanKane »

Hi,

After deciding I wanted to get my JV1080 back running,
I found I was getting sticky notes and bad MIDI running DP 6.03. Running MIDI Express.
Never had this problem. Any suggestions to fix this?

Thanks,
Allan

Hi, Allan.

I use the JV2080, and it runs perfectly on my system. I'd doubt any MIDI problems are related to the synth.
What exactly do you mean by "bad MIDI"?

Also, you may want to look at DP7.02. Most users are VERY happy with its performance and improvements.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

Check if your MIDI express has a battery.. if it has, get a new one.

Hmmmm. I've been having weirdness with my JV1080 lately as well. I had thought that, after years of faithful service, it was on its way out. I get this thing where, all of a sudden there's just no sound coming from the device (sometimes the MIDI in LED is permanently lit), and I have to re-boot it.

For me I think it's been since upgrading to Leopard, and it's happened connected to both my MOTU MIDI Express and to the MIDI on my RME interface. It started happening in DP 6.02, but not while I was still running on Tiger.

Maybe coincidence, maybe not....

Wow - this is interesting...

I have a JV880 that I use for live performance, and have experienced stuck notes when using DP 7.x as my patching and routing system through an MTP-AV USB. When I used the on board routing and patch change information (which is only supported with serial interfaces and OS9 *grumble*), no problem. But when I use the computer, I get LOTS of stuck notes - especially during organ "power slides" or fast note runs.

In my situation, it's very clear it's only when the computer and DP is involved - not a problem when directly connected.

If anyone comes up with a solution for this, please post it. I've had to take the JV880 off line many times during a performance, which means I don't get to use many of the sounds that I really need...

Are you suggesting there is an answer for this? If so, what is it?

As a last resort, I have to use Logic as a patching/routing system to filter duplicate Note ons and offs, because DP has MIDI volume surges. This may not be entirely DP's doing, however. You win some and you lose some. I have a 100% MIDI setup. My experience is that OSX and AudioMidi NoUptoSnuff can't handle fast mode very well. That combined with DP and its graphically intensive GUI can really bog down a system. I would have second thoughts about using DP's MIDI thru in this manner.

For the record, I haven't had any issues with any other sound module (I use a total of 6) than the JV880 - I think there's something else at issue here...
