How to route a stereo signal to two outputs in cue mix

basically i have movie playing out of my macbook pro and i want to have that stereo out come out of my Ultralite mkIII 1-2 out and mirror that to my 3-4 out, so i can have two stereo outs that go to two different amps, i thinks its simple but i cant figure it out , any help ?

Would there be anything wrong with Y-adapters?

Are you trying to control levels individually with CueMix?

Do you want to use Digital Performer somewhere in this loop?

you need a big "S" on your chest always here to save the day:), i would like to route the outs thru the ultra mkIII "cuemix" thats the only reason i bought it because i want to be able to eq the separate outs differently and have them go to the different amps, i hope im explaining that right

I wrote a very long reply to this, in great detail, but accidentally closed it. I can't rewrite all of that, so I'm going to be brief, but give only one option instead of several.

Basically, the probem is that when you choose your Ultralight for sound output, there is no input channel; only an output. What you want to do requires routing, but without an input there is nothing to route. So, you've got to do something that gives you an input.

In all that follows remember that in CueMix you can hold down the Command Key to operate both channels of any stereo controls. Thus, Command-Click on the mutes, and it operates both mute of a stereo pair. Command-Drag a fader, and it drags both faders. SHIFT-Drag will operate ALL the faders. (and buttons)

CueMix operates under the following principle: Each output pair (1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8 ) has its own bus page for setting up a mix. Inputs operate globally. Outputs and their faders only affect the output pair of the current bus page, Busses 1 — 4. So, we will be creating busses that contain mixes (each mix is independent of the other busses, so each output has its own mix), and each mix will be set to play the audio coming through the active input.
• In the 1st example, that input pair is 1&2.
• In the 2nd example, that input pair is 3&4.

I suggest running your System Audio through your Mac's line out, then patching that line into your Ultralight's Inputs 1&2 through a cable. It will require some adapters to get from a stereo mini to two mono 1/4" jacks. Once you do that, Open CueMix.
• In CueMix go to bus 1 page, and enable the Inputs for 1&2 and the outputs and levels for 1&2.
• Now go to Bus 2 page (analog 3&4), and enable the outputs for 1&2 and set their levels.
• Once you're done, you've set both output pairs 1&2 and 3&4 with independent mixes that are both set for channels 1&2 output. You'll see levels for channels 1&2 in both mix pages, and the output levels for both busses should be showing a signal. If not, check the mutes.

And that works.

Another way to do it requires care not to create a feedback loop, but involves patching Output 1&2 to Input 3&4 on your ultralight. You then choose to run the Ultralight for your system output. Beware... you can get a feedback loop doing this if you aren't careful. Therefore:
• Start with all channels muted and all faders down on all bus pages. Then work very carefully. Don't connect your amps until you are done and you can see the signals in CueMix, and you can see there are no feedback loops.

• Now, open Bus 2 (Outputs 3&4) and enable Inputs 3&4.
• Enable output 3&4 and set its levels
• Open Bus 3 (Outputs 5&6) and enable outputs 3&4, and set their levels.
• Open Bus 1, enable outputs 1&2, and ease up their levels. If you hear any feedback looping, pull the faders back down and recheck all your connections and the bus pages you set in the steps above.
• Finally connect your amps to Outputs 3&4 and 5&6 and fine-tune the levels on their individual bus pages.

If there's something here that's hard to understand, ask me and I'll try to clarify. Sorry I accidentally closed the other one. The instructions were very detailed.

One more thing:

I'm working with very old audio interfaces (8 to 10 years old). They're legacy boxes (MOTU 1296, 2408mkII, and 896), and they do not have all the options that the current units have. CueMix does not work the same way on them that it does on the newer units.

So, there MAY be easier ways to do this that don't require patching.

There is also Soundflower, but it's been so long since I used that, that you are on your own in figuring it out.

Maybe someone else will have other, easier methods.

Thanks Shooshie!!!!, i called tech support today and i cant do what i want to do, your suggestion does work though, coming out of an out into an in and create my mixes that way, i think it should be simple for motu to make this possible, i had tried coming out of my headphone jack but i just didnt think it sounded as good as coming thru the firewire & ultra, maybe i am just imagining that
