Actually I have been thinking that for a long time a forum called "DP and Third Party Plug-Ins (VIs and Effects)" or something like that would be a good idea since a great deal of discussion revolves around that. In that particular forum I would probably NOT separate the usage type stuff from the troubleshooting.SixStringGeek wrote:Yeah but its cool. Here's an idea for ya - maybe have a plugs forum for posting about cool group buys, new releases, and tips on upgrades. A big value for me is watching the forums and seeing someone post a notice that there's a downloadable release for stylus or something. Its stuff we care about, but its not strictly speaking DP related.James Steele wrote:The categorization has a LONG way to go. That is to say I'm through 3 of 393 pages of posts. That's because I added a Digital Perfomer Tutorial Video section and you can now embed YouTube video in posts.

James,
Can we have a sub-catagory for D.P. users with herpes.
I'm sorry I meant D.P. users with hairpieces!!
Oh never mind..... no one wants to admit they have either one of those things.
Thanks for being the captain of this ship.
It's a fine ship indeed!!

The idea is troubling of putting "troubleshooting" in a seperate forum where someone who might in 1 second have an answer for your problem, but will not see it because they are not going to look there until they have a problem of their own. With minimal technical support from MOTU themselves, MOTUnation is the one place to go for help with workarounds etc.
If searching for help is made even 10% less effective here because there are less "views" of a troubleshooting request from a casual forum browser, it is one more disadvantage to Digital performer.
Perhaps you can be sympathetic and not eliminate "troubleshooting" threads that are posted in both forums?
Hasn't James on occassion benefited from a large community helping him figure out Native Instrument Problems with PPC etc. Most likely James checks mutliple forums, but the available wisdom of users who just occassionally browse one forum when they have a few minutes on their hands, well I hope that wisdom doesn't have to be wasted.
Regarding "My DAW better than yours"- yeah, that can have it's own forum, and Group Buys would benefit from having it's own forum (easy to check if you have a few dollars- and stay away from if you don't!).
But if someone is having a problem with 6/8 clicks, importing exporting formats, spinning beach balls- they should have all the help possible at their disposal. And know that if they limit their search to a single forum (because of two broad of results from the essential search term across multiple forums) that previous threads related to the subject will be found.
Good Luck.

It seems to break up the "community" flow...
Sometimes when freedom is abused it is retracted. It will be interesting to see if this is still working in six months. What criteria is used to measure the effectiveness?
