Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
A bit off topic, but maybe you guys can help me here.
I bought DFH / EZ drummer a long time ago before I was on DP. Then with DP I bought SD 2.0 and a bunch of other expansion kits. I've installed the SD 2.0 DFH to use with SD 2, but there are no kit presets and the mapping seems to be off. Something is amiss...
Watch this movie to see what I am talking about. You guys are talking about the default kits from DFH and such but I don't seem to have and default kits at all with DFH and I'm not sure what's going on. Am I doing something wrong getting DFH over to SD 2?
Thanks for any insight, guys.

Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
You're essentially trying to load up EZDrummer's version of DFH inside Superior Drummer 2? I know Superior Drummer can load up EZDrummer kits, but not vice-versa. And you then purchased DFH for Superior Drummer? It seems like a conflict going on here. When I load up DFH inside EZ Drummer, it automatically loads up the Default kit, and you can then click on any drum in the GUI "drumkit" window and choose either a different kind of that specific drum, or, further down, choose a completely different drum kit in the DFH arsenal. Theoretically, you should also be able to do all this inside Superior Drummer, and it should load up the same way.cbergm7210 wrote:A bit off topic, but maybe you guys can help me here.

Also, make sure your kits are where they're supposed to be. On my computer, the kits are located HD>Library>Application Support>EZ Drummer. See if you have a Superior Drummer folder in the same location, and, if so, make sure all the kits you're trying to load in Superior Drummer are located there (drag them from the EZ Drummer folder, if necessary).

Ok... I see the issue you are having as I have all these products and kits...
First let's clear up what we are talking about...
cbergm7210 - you purchased DFH Superior and then you purchased Superior Drummer 2.0.
Armageddon and I are actually discussing the DFH expansion pack for EZDrummer that is currently being sold and is pretty different from DFH Superior (the drums are pre-processed). This expansion pack also works inside of Superior Drummer 2.0.
Ok... cbergm7210 it looks like you have successfully added the DFH Superior sounds to your Superior Drummer 2.0 application but if you want to load kits you need to look under
"construct" and select a kit layout click the image below:

Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
Also... cbergm7210 you mentioned that the mappings are incorrect... you should be able to account for older mappings by using EZ Player pro... if you drag MIDI files into EZ Drummer you can specify a source mapping and a destination mapping.

Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
Thanks for the clarification, guys. It makes sense now. What is basically Superior Drummer 1.0 that is called DFH Superior I was confusing with the DrumKit From Hell EZX.
I went ahead and got the DFH EZX and I see what you mean by everything you were speaking of in previous posts. The snares are nice and cracking and should be good for layering with other snares.
Thanks again for the info!
Chris

Nice! the DFH EZX is definitely worth owning.

Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
The only thing I find aggravating about any of the EZ kits is the velocity situation -- 127 on velocity isn't just a hardest hit, it completely changes the character of the drum. According to all the MIDI grooves that come with the software, a "normal" snare hit is around 100, which, with most other virtual drumkits, is actually a softer-than-normal hit. I understand that it's difficult to cram that much articulation into 61 keys (and the EZ kits all give you various other articulations and sounds below the GM kick key on an 88-key keyboard), but I'd rather have had the extreme snare sound on its own key, in an ideal world. That said, once you get over that weirdness, being able to pull up various snare hits above 100 to add an extra touch of expression, or max out the velocity to cut through a full mix without compression (ala most modern metal, nu metal, etc.) is pretty nice. The downside, of course, is both having to fudge with drum tracks recorded with other drum software and having to calibrate either your keyboard playing or the velocity sensitivity of your snare drum pads if you're using an electronic kit to play and record EZ Drummer tracks. Oddly enough, the kick drum and toms and, as far as I can tell, every other drum in the EZ kits operate in a standard 1-127 velocity manner (and the kicks seem a little round, even in DFH, but I think it's due to me being used to DR-660/770 "room kicks" that come off more square and synthetic).
For the record, I also output my kick, snare and toms to a bus compressor. I've been using a Metric Halo Channel Strip drum bus compressor preset (the lightest setting), and since Metric Halo VST and Vision DSP never got along in the Classic days, I just used an approximation of its settings in an instance of Waves Vintage Compressor, which worked out perfectly. And since it's an output bus, I automate it to only engage in a full mix, which helps the drums cut through without being completely squashed, and allows them to play uncompressed when there's only a bass, vocals and some minor instruments playing so they sound more natural.

Re: Steven Slate Drums EX?
Now that we're talking about it I just remembered I used Slate's snare and kick on this band's tune using Drumagog's replacement plug, just as another example:
