Cleaning up audio components question (Kontakt)

When I go to add a new software instrument, I get options for Kontakt 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, Quad, and older versions I no longer want. How do I delete these from the Instruments menu? I thought it was under library>audio>components but I can't seem to find the individual configurations. Thanks!

If you have older versions of Kontakt you're trying to get rid of from your AU plug-in list, you can probably find them in Hard Drive>Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>Components, where you can just pull them out and trash them. If you'd rather not trash them, just go into your DP Prefs, Audio Plug-Ins, and de-select the ones you don't wish to have load in DP -- they'll be gone from your plug menu the next time you start up DP.

I brought the above part up because I wasn't clear on whether you were trying to delete older versions of Kontakt, or whether you were attempting to "get rid of" Quad, 7.1, 5.1, etc. versions of Kontakt. You can't. Kontakt and PLAY (and, probably, other samplers like Mach 5, HALion and GigaPlayer, and some soft synths, like Korg WAVESTATION) offer various output options from the same plug-in. They aren't different plugs, just different output options. I know, I know, it's a pain in the keister when you just want to load an instance of Kontakt and you have to scroll through a huge list of options before getting to the stereo Kontakt you actually want, but there is, sadly, no way around it. It would be nice if DP eventually reconciled its AU handling so that, unless you were mixing something in 10.1 surround, these options didn't even show up in your plug-in list, but I don't think it's common enough (most VI plugs are stereo only) that they've given it much thought.

Yes, I just wanted to do what you described in the second part. Thanks for letting me know there really isn't a way to do it. You're right, hopefully someday DP will offer this sort of customization.

I've gone through the same aggravation, since I have Kontakt 3, PLAY and Korg WAVESTATION, all of which have a plethora of output options. Every time I want to load an instance of Kontakt, I have to scroll down a loooooooooong list, and that's after the fact that all my NI instruments (B4 II, FM8, Pro-53 and Kontakt) are in their own dedicated instrument folder.

It's because you are using multiple I/O audio interfaces... I don't see them with my Duet at all... I try to launch a surround channel and get a crash (to be expected since there's only 2 outs) so it's I/O dependent.

Ya know ... that never even occurred to me! I always assumed that a surround option just existed for any plug that supported it, regardless of i/o capabilities or what outputs you had programmed in your project. Unfortunately, that still means you have zero control over those multiple-output plug-in options, if your interface handles more than two channels of i/o. Or, if you're on an Intel Mac, I suppose you could simply unplug your interface and use the built-in audio, which gives you up to 96 kHz quality on just two channels ...

well, the only workaround I found for this minor annoyance is "clippings"!

Well, if it can be of some use, here it is my workaround for not being able to "custom-organize" plugins: namely clippings!

I made a new clipping window and I dragged my plugins and I ordered them by type.
The same I did, in another clipping window, with Virtual Instruments.

Now I have two clipping windows from where I just drag the plug or VI I need. It helps a lot my workflow and it spares me to dig between menus and "mono/mono to stereo" VIs which I'll never need.

Clippings are an amazing DP feature- everytime they come up, I feel a need to add +1 to their underuse.
DP clips for object based sections of music (verses, choruses, etc), for plug-in settings & organization by type (mentioned above), for project notes, track layouts, digital manuals & version readmes, even your project's budget spreadsheets, much more.
