DP 5 / 6 / 7 + Mac Pro Dual / Quad / Octa / Xeon / Nehalem

Post by muxlow »

I haven't been following DP / Mac compatibility for a while, but when I last was, there was a bunch of chatter about quad cores not working right or DP not using them correctly or something.

Question: If I buy a new / new-ish Mac, are there any specific models I need to avoid with certain versions of DP?

Many thanks. you guys are invaluable.

DP7 works great in all Intel macs, AFAIK, haven't heard of any issues. I run it on a 8core, see sig. Wouldn't worry about it, new-ish Mac with SL and DP7 is going to work just great.

Once you figure which Mac exactly you want to get, you could come back and check with someone who has that precise model. Just to be safe... 8) But I haven't heard of any inherent incompatibilities.

DP7 work great and is multi-processor aware even on "dinosaurs" like my G5 Quad running 10.4.11.

I had a G4 dual 1.25 or something like that, and seem to recall DP using both processors. Then again, that was under OS9.

Open Apple's ACTIVITY MONITOR utility and it will show CPU usage for each core.
