Pro tools LE
Is it possible to run DP as a master and Protools Le as a slave, syncing to DP , Or vise versa.
Just wondering if anyone knows. I would be using ultralite for audio interface.
thanks

Re: Pro tools LE
You can use the Eleven Rack with near-zero latency with any DAW, according to Digidesign. As far as making it work with DP and PT at the same time, I have no idea.
How's that for a non-answer?

Re: Pro tools LE
I want to use Pro tools LE for the guitar tracks (to take advantage of the embeded rigs and editing) and DP for everything else, then when I'm ready for mix down, I'll take the pro tools tracks out, and put them in DP.
So basically I need to sync the two programs together. I know nothing about pro tools. Spent my whole life avoiding it.

Re: Pro tools LE
You need to think if you really want the headache of dealing w/ Digi's Core Audio Manager AKA Core Audio Hijacker...if Pro Tools is running and/or a Digi interface is your primary interface 24/7 you can only listen to one audio source as a time, meaning nothing from the finder or web audio or anything of that sort will be audible unless you pull it into Pro Tools for previewing or copy it in completely or have another app rewired in. Other than that you can't run another piece of audio software in tandem w/ PT, and you won't be able to use the Ultralite while PT is running (except as additional inputs via SPDIF or something to one of Digi's more expensive units).
As you described, what you can do is do the work you need to do w/ Pro Tools, w/ the Digi hardware selected as your default output/input, then when you're finished, bounce your rendered audio tracks out as Wavs or Aiffs somewhere (or use OMF if you want to shell out for Digitranslater or DV Toolkit) and pull them back into DP once you've quit PT and have your Motu interfaces selected in Audio/MIDI setup.
I haven't had PT on my system for a while for the above reasons, but I think the above is info is still accurate , at least as far as PT6/7 goes.

Wow, I guess it wont work like I thought. I guess I will just try the eleven rack in DP and see how that goes. Thanks for the info anyways.

Re: Pro tools LE
Actually, I think there is a way to listen to other software audio sources concurrently w/ Pro Tools but it's a bit awkward (Jack and software solutions like that won't work): you could take the built-in combo out (out of which the system audio would come if you have Digi hardware selected as default output, and out of which DP's audio would come if you were trying to run it simultaneously w/ PT) and route that to an input on the Digi hardware and set it up as an input in Pro Tools' I/O section and then set up a track in PT to monitor that input...and...well yeah, it's awkward, but I think it would work.
Alternately, I wonder if DP can be a Rewire slave to PT (it can't go the other way as PT won't RW slave to anything). That would be another option but I don't know if it would work. The only apps I've used w/ PT via Rewire are Reason, Max/MSP and SoundMiner.

I see where your going and yea, it does sound like it would work. now to get DP to slave.
I've only rewired once with reason. I will try it wire DP
thanks

Re: Pro tools LE
Digi apparently has this one locked down pretty good. All that slick, cool computer GUI stuff is only available in Pro Tools. It's my understanding that you would have to use it like any other outboard guitar processor in DP or any other DAW except PT.
Check this DUC thread: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=255889
From what I have divined up to this point is that there is no coreaudio driver and you have to dial in all the settings. I think they're a returnable item (as are other Digi interfaces if you DO NOT register them), so you could give it a shot. Check with the sales person first though.

Re: Pro tools LE
I have no problem listening to multiple applications with my Mbox 2 Pro, concurrently.
I just tried playing back a PT project, DP project, iTunes, and live audio from Safari; all at the same time. It all works just fine.

please let us know the results. Very, very curious. Zero latency sounds good to me!

Re: Pro tools LE
With the MBox 2 series, the driver is multi-client, so it works as you've said above. The 002/003 series is not multi-client so you if you're running PT, all other apps are excluded. There is a convoluted work around running an audio cable from the computer audio out to an 002/003 input, but . . .666 wrote:I have no problem listening to multiple applications with my Mbox 2 Pro, concurrently.

The real question is, is there a coreaudio driver available for the Eleven? If not, it's just another piece of rack gear not accessible to other DAWs, not an audio interface.
