DP7 - Let's support it
I've come to realize through reading other forums that many people will be skipping/not purchasing DP7 because of bugs DP6 had, sudden upgrade/price issues, ect..
While I understand these frustrations, I think it's important to support MOTU's efforts in advancing the software you all use and love.
If no one does, what will motivate them to continue releasing the DP line?
I say all of this from a business standpoint, as this will be the first version of DP I own.
That being said, there's a reason why I'm making the switch to DP.
As all of you know, MOTU really does have a great workstation and as far as I'm concerned, it could easily replace pro tools if it had the same hype.
I hope I have a good first experience, although I'm not worried.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
Amen. I will be upgrading right away. I have heard from some sources I trust that a good deal of bug squashing also went into DP7 and it will probably be one of the best versions in a while. I'm all over it.

My order will be in when they notify me (down here) on shipping and a project that I'm taking on will be paying for DP7 and SL.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
Okay. I skipped 6, and even purchased Logic when they lowered prices on 8, and now I have 9. I also have ProTools Mpowered and Ableton Live. Upgrading all of these can get pretty damn expensive at 200bucks each! But...I think I'd like to see what DP7 can do on my new 8core. $200 more on an app that has let me earn much more than that from scoring films to doing album tracks is fine by me. (PLUS it has wait-for-note!

VERY nice first post, for a change!
Welcome to the Nation, and I hope MOTU gets the support it deserves. I'm in. I'm definitely buying DP 7 too.

I heard the same thing, James. My order was in last Friday. I'm hoping to be writing reports on DP7 by sometime this week.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
Quite the contrary on my end, visconti. I'm holding off for a while because I finally have a combination that's rock solid - DP 6.02 & Snow Leopard. It's the most stable combo I've had in quite some time. If the reports come in that DP7 is as stable, then I'll jump on the band wagon. So hurry up and get DP7 installed and report back.visconti wrote:I've come to realize through reading other forums that many people will be skipping/not purchasing DP7 because of bugs DP6 had, sudden upgrade/price issues, ect..

And welcome aboard.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
I ordered DP 7 the day it was announced, despite the fact that I'd deleted DP 6 from my G5 last summer, after having all sorts of problems (including the Kontakt Player 2 issue).
Ironically, I just reinstalled DP 6 a few days before 7 was announced. I hadn't tried 6.02 on my G5, and I was determined to do whatever I could to troubleshoot any remaining problems. Once I got KP2 out of the picture in some old projects, things were looking pretty good, and I was making headway in learning about the new features. I'll keep at this till 7 arrives, and in fact I'm making progress tracking down the source of most of my current crashes (a third-party plug-in).
I was one of those starting to wonder if MOTU's commitment to DP was starting to slip, but DP 7 pretty much takes care of that. On paper, at least, this looks like a good update - a nice mix of productivity enhancements and new toys to sweeten the deal.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
For some of us it is a pure business decision, and has nothing to do with emotional temper tantrums or, conversely, jumping at the latest bells and whistles. For me and upgrade won't happen until Q1 2010 for budgetary reasons. The remaining purchases I have allocated for the remainder of this year are too critical for me to swap out in lieu of DP7. That said, as I apportion my Q1 budget, DP7 will be on that list.visconti wrote:I've come to realize through reading other forums that many people will be skipping/not purchasing DP7 because of bugs DP6 had, sudden upgrade/price issues, ect..

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I placed my order a few minutes ago. Have the rest of you received emails for shipping confirmation and tracking? I imagine most orders that were placed friday have shipped by now.

I hope to be the bearer of good news, although feedback would be more valid (good or bad) coming from previous users I'm surePhil O wrote:If the reports come in that DP7 is as stable, then I'll jump on the band wagon. So hurry up and get DP7 installed and report back.

Re: DP7 - Let's support it
I ordered early Friday afternoon. As of 5:30 Eastern Time today (Monday), my bank account shows no draft from MOTU. The girl on Friday told me one-to-two days. So, it could be tomorrow. I got 2nd day delivery, so even if it's tomorrow I'll still have it Thursday. But I suspect they're overwhelmed with orders. I had to call about 6 times to get to a sales person. The receptionist finally put me through out of exasperation. My first message had gone to them at about 10 in the morning, and by 2:00 in the afternoon they had not called me back. I ordered it on the internet, so that I could secure a place in the queue, then I called once more to find out when they would ship. The receptionist didn't even let me ask my question. She let out a loud sigh and transferred me to a sales girl. I explained that I had already ordered via internet, and I asked if there was any difference between internet orders or phone orders. She said no, but obviously there is, since my order hasn't gone out yet, and my order was in by 2:00 p.m.visconti wrote:Thanks for the warm welcome!

Anyway, I'm still hoping for a bank notice. Perhaps it's already gone through, and they just haven't posted it yet. That's wishful thinking. But it's silly of me even to check. I'm acting like a kid at Christmas, peeking into the packages days before we open them.

I ordered at about 1:30 pm PST last Friday, ground shipping. As of this morning, my credit card has been charged, but I haven't received a shipping notice. No hurries - I'm still ramping up on DP 6.02!
