Time Machine saves us once again!!

Just wanted to pass on another successful implementation of Time Machine, now the third occasion where it has saved our skins.

My partner was due to leave for Melbourne, Aus. (we are based in the UK) to be an 'artist in residence' at an arts institute. Less than 12 hours before leaving for the airport her MacBook Pro battery overheated and expanded, also putting pressure on the trackpad so it no longer functioned. She felt most vulnerable as all her projects and communications are contained on that MBP, with many meetings and film shoots arranged for her arrival. There was no room for error or time to find a solution locally.

We use Time Machine on all our machines so the system had been backed up moments before discovering this crisis. We needed to take swift action.

So I stayed up through the night and restored her backup to my MacBook Pro so she could take it as well. Absolutely flawless!! My own system had been backed up as well.


As it happens, I managed to make the 30 mile journey to the Bristol Apple Centre who were completely brilliant and replaced and fixed her machine under Applecare, so it got sorted out anyway. All before making the 100 mile trip to the airport. So She didn't need to take my MBP after all.

She has travelled with her Time Machine backup drive so she can continue to stay up to date. The benefit now is that we have a backup here in the UK. When I know she has arrived safely I can restore my own system.

So, this is a recommendation for Time Machine, and also Applecare! And special thanks to the Genius Bar folks who rose to the occasion and gave us priority in a crisis. I would encourage creating a relationship with your Apple Centre Business department if your livelihoods depend on your Apple products.
