I have a 828mk2 FW that I want to connect with a PRO VLA 2 compressor.
Can I use unbalanced cables? and what output and input ports can I use on the MOTU.
Thanks for your responses
cheers,
***By the way, not providing a manual that explains how to use MOTU products is one retarded business concept if the company is looking for new customers. (imho)***

I would use TRS cables (balanced). You can use either +4 or -10 but both units need to be set the same. +4 is the professional standard, -10 is the consumer standard. The VLA has a button on the back. On the 828, you can dial in the setting or set it in QueMix (easier). Use any of the inputs 1-8 on the back of the 828 - don't use the front GTR/Mic inputs. Open CueMix and click the +4 or -10 button above the fader for the inputs you used to match the setting on the VLA.

Thanks for the response. I'm having partial success. Will fart around with it some more to figure things out.

Re: 828mk2 - output/input - Balanced cables or Not???
Are you using as an insert for the two 828 mic ins? Then use the mic sends on the back of the 828 and return the compressor to another input pair. This way, you avoid multiple A to D and D to A conversions.
Balanced lines are almost always preferable when connecting devices. Rane has a really good wiring guide, available online. Search it out and you will learn a lot.
BTW, I got a nice manual with my 828mkII when I purchased it...
