Error Message. Yippee!

Post by DP Fan »

I just installed DP. When I open it I get:

Mac OS error. Access denied. Insufficient access privileges for the operation (-5000).

I'm repairing disk permissions as we speak. Any other thoughts?

Thanks...

.

Is it a blank, new project, or are you trying to open a previously made one?

Just opening the program from the dock. The program itself won't open, so I don't actually get the opportunity to open a specific file.

First, is there a plist for DP? If so, delete it and try again. Second, if there isn't, reinstall the program and be sure to enter the key code with the install disk in the DVD drive. But you might want to call MOTU on this one. It is very unusual and I am sure they can hash it out for ya.

Same thing just happened to me. I had DP 7 working on my computer. Then I had to use the Migration Manager to get some files from an old computer. It also transferred DP 7. Somehow it won't start. Get the same error.

But there is one other thing I did that might be the cause. I took a lot of fonts from the old computer and installed them into the newer one. I seem to recall DP having trouble with fonts sometimes. Not sure why it would say insufficient access privileges.

Any ideas?

That's what I suggested in another thread. Neal, I'm assuming you have the original installer disc, right?

Yeah.

I saw your other post. I thought this one might be too old so I posted it new. Unless I get more answers here I'll just keep the other one going.

I'm not sure you'll need more answers. If you just install off the original DP7 CD again and then do the upgrade installers along the way, you should be able to get back to where you need to be.

I am installing off the install disk. Are you saying that if I do the update it'll start up? It should start with just the first install.

I didn't know you had tried that. Normally, if you go back and delete for example DP's prefs, MOTU plugs, and DP and then reinstall from the original disc, it should get you back in business. I'm at a loss for what's going on in your situation. I would advise you to get up so you can call MOTU tech support when they open then phones at 9am EST. I'm assuming they still do phone support, yes? You just have to hit redial over and over to get through.

Yeah. I'll try that. Also put in an email tech support request.
If I can't get through soon I'll probably reinstall the OS and then DP again. I'm suspecting it's something to do with fonts because of an issue I had before with DP.
Thanks.

It also might have something to do with a corrupted registration file. There is an invisible file that DP uses that it keeps on your HD. There are instructions in some thread here somewhere for removing it. You'll need to use Terminal. Do a search on "installation" or "registration." I had that problem a few versions back. I'll do a search and get back to you.
