currently DP shows the patch list for only the built in GM Apple Software Synth. Others AudioUnit instruments are merely shown with patch numbers - not the names.
We need to be able to select AudioUnit and MAS instrument plugin patches in the same manner for convenience, without having to open up the editor.
Other AudioUnit based software - like the Metro sequencer , RAX and Garageband are able to retrieve and display these patch Lists by name without need to open up the VI editor so i dont see why MOTU should have a problem.
I believe many would really appreciate this feature. Since VI plugins are the future and here to stay.

Re: feature request: AU instrument patch names in tracks view
I have the same question. I can't believe Motu has not already addressed this. Getting patch names for AU instruments is positively and ridiculously difficult to get into the track. The thing that is even more annoying and more relevant is that when you're using a drum instrument of some kind, the patches should have note names associated with notes and show up in the drum view, but they don't, without a lot of manual fiddling around, loading from templates, if you have them, etc..

this would be a big change in the way i work... having to reopen the plugins to change patches takes away from the moment... i always have the sequence editor open so it would be great if this feature was added..
