CPU Overload with Motu828mkII and Cubase 4

Post by Neige »

I suddenly out of the blue have CPU overlaod and almost all my projects. I used to run them at 512 Samples per Buffer but depending on the project, I have to raise it up now. I have a dual core intel 2.66Ghz with 2 HD ( C: 232 GB free space and E: 465 GB free space ) and 1.87 Gb RAM and have SP3 without the updates. CPU on task manager doesn't go above 15% normally. First, I just realized that my motu driver shows 3.40 ( from original CD ). I downloaded the 3.6.8.1400 but it's all messed up with outputs/connections. I read thru the forum and saw that it is recommended to stay on 3.6.7.
How do I get 3.6.7 now ( It's not on the website anymore )?
Any help / suggestions regarding the sudden CPU overload.
I called Steinberg, Motu, my computer guy, removed HD realtek Audio, run mcAfee, run malware detection from microsoft, reinstalled Cubase and Motu, disconnected the internet and still the same??????????????

here's a link for the 3.6.7.4 driver:

http://harmoniccycle.com/hc/zip/MOTU_32fw_3.6.7.4.zip

you won't get THAT from motu.

As far as the CPU overload, any new or untypical plugs?

Any new usb devices interfering with your dongle?

Any other system changes that you made

While you're at it check out your system latency with this free tool:

http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

you'll be able to see when some process is taking resources and narrow it down by process of elimination

Don't forget to turn things off in bios, (try that net card, eg)

In my case, I had a similar thing from an HP printer driver that kept checking for network connection every 20 seconds. Creating a hardware configuration that turned off un-needed things solved the trouble

Well, thanks for the infos. I downloaded that version and installed it and now Cubase can't find it. It says that I need to make sure it's connected and turned on???????????? I'll try that latency program. I've already tried process explorer and nothing abnormal. Nothing new has been installed except the last updates of SP3 but I removed them and same thing............
