MIDI stops working after about a minute

Post by surrealka »

So, I just got a new iMac and was very excited to test out DP 6.02 on it. Everything rocks on it until.... after about a minute, the MIDI stops working. When I quit and reopen, it works fine — for about a minute. Same result in the standalone version of NI Massive. Everytime I open a program, the MIDI stops working after a short while.

My MIDI interface is an old M-Audio MIDIsport 4x4. It's USB 1.0 (could that be the problem?).

Setup is as follows: iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/ 4 GB RAM, MOTu 828 firewire interface, MIDIsport 4x4, DP 6.2.

Any advice would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Do you have a friend in your area who know something about DP/MIDI, etc. Basically, what you describe is certainly not normal behavior at all. I'd make sure that if you need any drivers with your interface you check that you've installed the latest, etc. I'd also borrow another MIDI interface and test with that. I don't know how much you have invested in the M-Audio interface, but I'd suggest getting yourself a MOTU MIDI interface and be done with the problem potentially.

Bottom line... the problem you describe is quite odd and not something that is reported very often here.

Thanks, yeah. It's weird. Especially given that the interface worked fine with my older G4 that I've been working on until I got the new iMac. I'll try another interface and see what happens.

Hmmm... that's even more strange. Do you need a special driver from M-Audio? Is there a newer one perhaps? I can't see right now as I'm typng this but have you upgraded to a newer OS, like from Tiger to Leopard?
