Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
Uh, this is crazy, but I cannot figure out how to completely clear the PATCH boxes (DEFAULT and PATCH) on tracks that I have put a patch selection in. In the tracks overview window, I am referring to.
It's annoying because when there is a patch number in the box it selects the patch every time I play the sequence, and resets changes I made on the patch, and the keyboard patch drop out for a moment while it is choosing the patch, etc.
In other words, I want it to go back to "-" and not have DP choose any patch at all.
Help?

I always enter patches in the "Default Patch" column - then, if you want to delete it, you select "Clear Default Patch" in the mini-menu. I never figured out how to clear the patch from the "Patch" column either.

highlight the MIDI track, shift e, then highlight the patch change info at the beginning usually and delete.

That's the way to do it. The 'Patch' column just keeps track of any patch change MIDI events in the track and shows what patch the device is currently on. To delete them, you need to delete them from the MIDI track (like how Dave Pine just suggested).tim57var wrote:I always enter patches in the "Default Patch" column - then, if you want to delete it, you select "Clear Default Patch" in the mini-menu. Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
I am still having problems with this.
I accidentally hit the Command and up arrow on a track, now there is a Patch change on the TO page on that track and there is NO patch change in the event list for that track, and I CANNOT get rid of the Patch change it that column on the TO page, therefore it is changing the Patch on the VI.
Can anyone help me get rid of this mysterious patch # and get it back to the default "-"???

Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
In the mini-menu there's an option 'clear default patch' (for the selected track). Once you clear that it should clear the 'patch' column as well if there's no patch change data on the track (which there isn't).cbergm7210 wrote:I am still having problems with this.

Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
Hey Mr. C. Thanks for the help.
Try it yourself, though. In a blank project, make a new MIDI track assigned to anything. Highlight the track in the TO screen and hit Command Up Arrow, thereby putting a Patch into the patch box and the default patch box. Look in the event editor and there is nothing there. Clear the default patch box with the mini menu. The Patch box number still remains.
And if you delete the track and make another MIDI track and pull up that instrument on that channel, it goes to that patch in the patch box for that track, IOW it remembers where you left off in the patch selection game.
I am still in 5.13

Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
Ok, yeah, I see what you mean. I don't think it should be a problem though, as the 'patch' column doesn't send any program change messages, only the 'default patch' column. Try hiding the 'patch' column in your TO preferences. I don't ever put patch changes in my MIDI tracks (I just use a seaparate track/channel for each sound) so I have it permanently hidden.cbergm7210 wrote:Hey Mr. C. Thanks for the help.

Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
Thanks guys, for bringing this subject up. I had been meaning to get to the bottom of the patch/default patch behavior for some time. I too had become frustrated/bugged by not being able to turn off the 'patch' and thought it was affecting things adversely. Now, after your comments and tackling the manual this evening (!- pgs. 79, 89, and esp. 183) I think I finally have a handle on this.
I think, Mr. Clifford, your tip of the 'clear default patch' is the key to maintaining order and control. Briefly, it works like this: the 'patch' column only reflects the current patch and does not load the patch on the next boot of the file (it reverts to ----), so it doesn't really matter if it doesn't turn back off. The 'Default patch' does load on file bootup, which could prove handy in certain cases. And if you decide you don't want it to load, just disable it before saving with the 'clear default patch' command in the mini menu.
I am actually excited to have this cleared up, as I have an XP-80 standing up behind my workstation and it's been a pain to go around the side and change patches!! I also have an S80 right next to me which serves as my 88 key controller, but it's much easier to change patches on the S80 in DP's patch list as well. I had hidden the patch and default columns because I thought there was something funky with their operation, but so happy to feel comfortable using them (and thus the XP80- nice patches on those expansion boards) again.
NIce to tackle so many things that were on the back burner when I had a full time job.....

Re: Clearing the PATCH # in the patch box
Yes, I think Mr C has helped to clear this up for me once and for all. Thank you for that.
Hopefully I did not come across too frustrated as I was trying to run a mix and upload it with only had minutes to do so when this little Patch issue came up and started messing with some VI tracks. You know how that goes. Anyway, now I see the clarification of the two boxes, so I will not be hindered by this little demon again. Knowledge is power and beauty is in the details.
