896mk3 pops/clicks/static on startup

Post by ironmanerz »

Just wondering, when I turn my 896 on the unit sends a static/pop/click sound through the monitors while it is initializing. After the 'Loading Cuemix' screen is done, then it is quiet again. Doesn't seem to effect it in a DAW, but I'm just wondering if that is natural? The power layout is APC UPS (non battery backup side) -> Furman Conditioner -> MOTU 896. Also, it did this at a friends house using his computer and monitors. The only thing we share is the same monitor brand, Maudio.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric!!

This is fairly normal with most digital audio devices.... while starting up they are looking for the clock which may be selected by the computer....

Always good practice to keep your monitors muted while booting the Mac.

Cheers

Thanks!

On a side note, I just relized that I am also getting a static sound from the left speaker at steady intervals. Quiet, but kinda sounds like (tss....tss....tss.....tss...tss).

Edit: It went away after changing the sample rate from 48000 to 44100.
