Can I download the 828mk3 manual from somewhere?

Post by Shinobiwan »

As title.

There's some questions I have and the manual would probably clear them up instead of bothering you kind folks. Unfortunately I'm either being dumb and missing the link on motu webpage or they don't have them available for download.

No.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

I totally get not making the software manuals available in PDF form, but the hardware manuals too? What possible harm could that do?

Agreed. TBH I was very interested in the 828mk3 but I've had difficulty in getting questions answered and motu themselves are next to useless - they don't answer mails nor could talk to anyone on the phone.

They can't even be bothered to put up hardware manuals for their products which will likely clarify what the device is capable of for a potential buyer such as myself.

Anyhow my enthusiasm for the 828mk3 has been dulled by these annoyances and I'm heavily swinging over to the RME Fireface 800 which, whilst more expensive, seems to well supported after I had quick replies to all my questions from the manufacturer.

So motu is probably a nice interface but support is poor even before I've purchased so I'd hate to see it afterwards when they've got your money.

I certainly cannot disagree with that. I make similar inquires prior to purchases. In some cases it may also be true that the sales folks are great but then support sucks.

I absolutely don't understand why motu doesn't make the hardware manuals available. before buying tech stuff, I need the manual, I need to know what I get!
For my 828 mk2, I fortunately found a german pdf somewhere on the worldwide web
but again the question to Motu: why the hell can't we get the manuals in pdf. don't know of any other company behaving like this...

OK that just made my mind up. I won't be considering the 828mk3 any longer.

A manufacturer charging for their own manuals! Disgusting.

I'm going with either the TC Electronic Studio Konnekt 48 or the RME Fireface 800.

Well, they don't charge for the manual of you buy the device. The cost of such things is always included in the initial price. If you could find a store selling it, maybe they'll let you look at their manual. Hopefully they won't charge you for that.

Virtually everyone else offers manuals as a PDF download from their webspace. The cost is nothing and the upshot is that potential buyers can look through and get a much better feeling for the features and how things operate. Its another sales tool and a way showing intent of good support.

Likewise for the user who've lost their manual - what do they do? Go through the inconvenience of buying one or waiting for the manufacturer to 'kindly' send one through the post as a good will gesture? That's if said manufacturer bothers to answer their emails

I look at what other companies with similar products are doing and how they handle emails and motu is crap in comparison.

Anyway I've already said I'm not going with the 828mk3 so little point wasting energy on a what I see as a poor company.

Hey, I'm not arguing with ya'. I agree, it should be free and in an online PDF. But there are, in fact, other companies that don't offer free manuals online. Not many, but a few. NASA for one :) And I can't get my shuttle off the ground unless I know what all the damn buttons are for. What do I need so many buttons for?

Sorry it was more a rant from me after some frustration getting what seems like relatively simple information out of motu. Definitely not aimed at you and thanks for your input and insights within this thread, its been appreciated.

Oh and NASA :D I like it.

All the best,
Ant
